Once you have food, here are some next steps:
- find a source of stone, make an axe with stone and branches from your food tree. this is your basic tool
- the first 200 lp pretty much requires grinding - axes or fires, generally
- if you are near shallow water, spend your first 200 points on pottery; dig clay in shallow water
- teapots are good LP; make a few of those to get the lp for basic skills. don't bother firing them
- people often kill animals and leave corpses, or bones. You may need hunting to harvest hide, meat, and bones. That's another 200 LP I believe
- bones (plus branches) make saws and arrows. some lp here, and a saw is useful

- meat should be cooked.
- different foods increase different stats; you want variety, because the cost of a stat point increases based on your maximum stat. Fruit gives no stat increase
- learn fishing early on; there are rivers all over the place, and you start with a fishing pole. This will give you more food access, near the start point. But don't eat too much fish; you'll wind up with more int than anything else
