I'm new

I want to try this game and I have no idea where to begin -- also I can't travel anywhere because it seems all the property is owned?

You can turn on criminal acts in the action menu to pass claims, just don't touch anything on the claim.
Your first act should be finding a source of sustenance, an apple or mulberry tree will do, but it'll have to be unclaimed, and that may be difficult.

Then you'll need LP to get the basic skills to make something of yourself.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

the area around RoB is very closed off. You must travel through the city of Brodgar to get out of the area. Or tresspass around the lake.

From RoB(where you start) head north and don't get swimming.

Once you have food, here are some next steps:
- find a source of stone, make an axe with stone and branches from your food tree. this is your basic tool
- the first 200 lp pretty much requires grinding - axes or fires, generally
- if you are near shallow water, spend your first 200 points on pottery; dig clay in shallow water
- teapots are good LP; make a few of those to get the lp for basic skills. don't bother firing them
- people often kill animals and leave corpses, or bones. You may need hunting to harvest hide, meat, and bones. That's another 200 LP I believe
- bones (plus branches) make saws and arrows. some lp here, and a saw is useful ;-)
- meat should be cooked.
- different foods increase different stats; you want variety, because the cost of a stat point increases based on your maximum stat. Fruit gives no stat increase
- learn fishing early on; there are rivers all over the place, and you start with a fishing pole. This will give you more food access, near the start point. But don't eat too much fish; you'll wind up with more int than anything else

North being top right of your screen. The first thing you should come across is a great big village, known as the city of brodgar. Find someone in the city and ask them to help you learn to play. They're a friendly bunch, someone should get you started
