Project: Rome

Postby Laremere » Sun Jun 07, 2009 4:51 am

Now that carts are in the game, roads actually mean quite a bit. I know some people are building roads, but I don't know where. This is the road plan I proposed in a different thread, if someone could show where roads currently are, we can all work to get roads built to every trading village.

Nice idea, sounds like they need to be three wide for carts to get full advantage. Although it might be that the openings need to be three wide not the road itself even if 3 wide makes sense.

I was thinking three wide too. Though carts don't need three wide, it would be easier to travel on at the rate carts travel at, diagonals work much better with three wide, and you wouldn't have to get off the road to pass someone.

Here's a somewhat rough map of the roads with which I'm familiar:

There's a road planned to go north already, but now that i think of it, it seems to sort of go right past your place.
And that other road looks fucking ridiculous. I know there's being worked on already but damn, that's a pain to follow. Roads need to be straight and aid you in walking the right direction.

This road road as suggested is supported by us. The village at the sea. But seems like i need to speak to our people about the current road which seems plain weird (the white one).

or are you refering to the north of us road? that... thats there for a lot of diff reasons like treeplanting areas and such.

i am referring to the road snaking about and almost going to the centre ring while it could have gone south around the swamp and a different road partly west.

we just did a large extention to the north road. [although half is stone and half is dirt]
its a start anyways
it goes from laketown to the forest just northwest of it [closest northwest one], the one shaped like a Y.

Purple is the path Rift made. Yellow is amended road plan.

Roads do need to be strait (Rift did a good job of this), and three wide. I'm going to start near my place, making stone roads, work down to Rift's road, converting it to stone and three wide, then I can finish the loop there and build north.

the purple road was planned to go along the whole yellow road. But if we can cooperate on that it would be much faster.
We will pave the dirt road as soon as we get the rocks from ore smelting.
