Some good strategy/ruling games to play

Postby Saif_Mahlik » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:52 pm

Well does anyone know any games that I can play to do with strategy, War and ruling an empire?

I am talking about games such as Mount and Blade where you can actually see and control your character as well, kinda bored of M&B.

the anno series perhaps, if you're really wanting war you won't find much there though at least, not primarily, particularly the new one, 2070 pushes you quite actively towards peace, kinda got on my nerves

Europa Universalis (i played the third one, no idea about 1 and 2) is quite good, it's strategic and on a pretty huge scale, not very pretty though

that's all i can think of right now that covers the nation/empire ruling part, however on the front of strategy games, it's well worth playing:
Command and Conquer: red alert (2 was my favorite)
Starcraft 1&2, purely for the campaign if multiplayer's not your thing
warcraft 3 is fun as hell if you get some frie... never mind saif
Heroes of Might and Magic are good, most of them anyway, seems to me the further back you go, the better
Civilisation, anything but 4, i prefer 5, the most recent, because they removed unit stacking, so there's more to it that who has the largest force
EVERY AGE OF EMPIRES GAME EVER and age of mythology(except AoE online, that doesn't count)

that's pretty much all i can think of right now.

Edit: wow, i actually expected decent discussion in here... damn
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

Check out the grand strategy games from paradox. The newest is crusader kings 2. You have to micro a country with econ, army, infrastructure and diplomacy. Whats really awesome with this game is you have to control your family line. Last game i played my gay son was a master spy and assassin. Dude loved the cock but did his duty to the family and made kids along with killing a fuck ton of rivals. Its no joke Game of thrones: the game

Other good ones is europa universalis 3 and the jap setting. Pick your fav setting and go with it. all the the paradox games are great.

Also try modding mount and blade. Prophesy of pendor is a amazing mod that changes the game and makes it fairly hard depending how crazy the barbarian demon or elf armies are getting.
