What should I do

Postby xXGhostxX » Sat Apr 14, 2012 7:52 am

My computer HDD just suicided itself and deleted my stuff :(. Suggestions? Apparently I didn't learn from Jorbtar and forgot to back up my files.

I hear good things of this http://www.grc.com/sr/faq.htm hope this helps.

How possible is it to recover data from a crashed hard drive?

That depends entirely upon "how crashed" the drive is. But SpinRite is often credited with performing "true miracles" of data recovery. Please read some of the true-life SpinRite testimonials we have received to get a sense for what SpinRite has done and can probably do for you if you ever need it. It is obviously possible for a drive to be so totally dead that it is only useful as a door stop. But today's modern drives struggle to stay alive and to die slowly. So if they are given some periodic SpinRite maintenance you should have plenty of warning of impending failure and also the ability to keep the drive alive until it can be replaced.
I fully look forward to jorb and loftar fixing several mechanics and bringing back updates, because at that time you chuckleheads are going to be more marginalized than lawn furniture in winter.

If your operating system is windows, you may need to delete system32.

Define dead. Dead as in it wont boot up? Can you boot it with an off disc OS or is your computer not even seeing it? Is it booting and the files are just gone? If they're just gone and you don't have a backup then they're gone and that's all there is to it.

first: what OS have you been running? did you (not do you!) hear any kind of noises of that HDD (motor spinning, cklicking)? What brand is that HDD?

second: don't do anything with that HDD now !!! - best is to take all cables off

third: get another HDD - put OS and programs on that ...

fourth: post when done... and pm me
