NOT newbie friendly...

Postby drunkennewbie » Mon Apr 16, 2012 6:36 am

Ok... I know this game is Alpha but seriously?

Game is FAR from newbie friendly, Random starting spots, no tutorials (minus the website). "Lag" Is terrible. LP is a little to much a hassle at start, I think skills like farming/fighting should be cheaper to help allow the newbies get past the first hump.

I think before they move to work on Salem they should get this game in a good working condition because to most people it could be a bad sign of other games to come.

I just started today and It took me bout 30 minutes to learn but that is cause I learn games fast but get people who aren't a huge gamer or something, they might have major problems.

I am sure people might flame this but maybe someone can put more light on these issues?

First off the game has more depth than 30 minutes of learning. It is free and the developers do have a more lucrative project right now. Nothing wrong with that. It means what they learn there they can bring back here. As for lag it happens. It is no where as bad as in the past.

It can be frustrating but give things a chance. Not every game you will find will be perfect or finished.

For the millionth time..... Alpha, Beta, Open Beta and Release or Gold Copy are all words that describe computer software that will presumably be released at some point in the future "for pay". Since Jorb and Loftar have stated that Haven & Hearth will NEVER be for pay, it isn't an alpha, or beta or anything but an ongoing fully released free game.

TL,DR haven isn't an Alpha, it's a free released game.

For help on how to start, you have various part of the forum and site to help you, particularly the sticky threads. Make sure to look over those thoroughly. A survival game as Haven and Hearth isn't meant to be easy and sometimes figuring what to do is part of the challenge of the game itself. LP should come in easier through discovery of different items through gathering.

Our old system was more based on actions and was done away with in favor of curiosity system and there is no plans to revert to the old system at all (and I highly advise not to make any suggestion to do so either).

Does that mean jorb himself misused the word alpha?

Ah, get over it. You've got to be playing computer games - or some form of constantly disappointing entertainment - for years before this game will reap any fruit for you.

This is a game for hardcore gamers, who've got the time and patience to waste.

People fail to realize that Haven is a side project. It's the same as any other hobby that you enjoy, like playing guitar for example. You can really enjoy it, but if you only focus on playing guitar and you push aside actual responsibilities it will not work out well for you. Salem is their job. Haven is not. People suggesting that haven be worked on before working on Salem are essentially asking Jorb and Loftar to call in sick to work every day until haven is running the way that they'd like it to.
