autohaven.jnlp downloads what?

Postby 0Danju0 » Mon May 07, 2012 11:28 pm

Does this download anything? It it the client itself? I ran it and it started to download something, but where did it download to?

I've tried looking for a similar post in the forum and have come up with nothing.

That downloads and installs the client for you and then you can run the game as long as you have Java installed.

Oh, so nothing is downloaded and saved to HD, it just "loads" up the client which then disappears when you close autohaven.jnlp?

It creates a folder named .haven in your user settings (location depends on the OS you use) - this contains the resource cache...

Thats what I first thought, which would be like Minecraft, except there was no folder.

A Java Web Start program doesn't download to a directory so much as it just downloads into a cache like a web page. I can't recall which of the AppData folders it downloads to on Windows, though, but it's %AppData%/Sun/Java/.... I believe it is possible to download the whole thing to a folder and run it from there, however, it won't auto-update as usual if the .jnlp isn't used.

Note: if you open your Java Control Panel and select "View..." in the Temporary Internet Files box of the "General" tab, you can see what Java applets have been downloaded. Select Haven and Hearth, click the "Create Shortcut" button, and then view the properties of the shortcut. The applet was cached in the "Target:" folder.
