Is it worth starting now?

Postby xianyu » Tue May 08, 2012 1:40 am

I've played characters in worlds 3, 4, 5 and the current. I started a character maybe two weeks after this world went up, and found that the server was overpopulated. There was nowhere in the overworld that was worth trying to set up a solo area, because no matter where I tried to set up, I was far too close to other players.

Has this gotten exponentially worse, considering how old the world is now? And also; is the divider between 'high level' players and newbies as cripplingly stupid as it was in previous iterations?

Oh well.

This game would have been fun if the map were a proper size for the amount of players on it.

If new guys can't get a good spot two weeks in...

Nearly every day new ppl start and some of them play on...that's HnH...

A problem is new players want to hurry and not make wise decisions where to settle - thus there is overcrowding in some areas...

On the other hand in overcrowded areas - raids and bigger factions and their struggling for powers are regulating somehow and those areas get less overcrowded for a while - till lotta newbies come and think: oh this seems to be a friendly and nice area - settle and get upset finding their stuff destroyed or their unclaimed cabin claimed at next login...cuz they just don't take their time to see what's going on a few tiles away...

edit:Typo

It's still worth starting late because you can still have fun without being the best at everything.

It's also worth noting that world resets aren't exactly uncommon. Get yourself familiar with the game world, make some friends. It'll give you a leg up on contacts for the next world.

Hermits can never "be the best" or hold the greatest location against groups. If either of those things appeal to you, you'll want to find your way into one of the factions.

Just came back from leaving W5 and I started playing 2 days ago, already have a 49x49 claim set up with 5 underlings, soon to have a village (though we've yet to get a palisade...) in a semi secluded area, so not all the good spots are gone. Killed a bear today with only 15 MM, pretty happy about that. We had some russian neighbors but one of them died, I looted his corpse and got a q60+ talisman which is not too shabby, not too great either. They had their key on them too, but I left it on their claim since I liked them.

I'm more than certain that I'm going to have all my shit taken from me soon, which will suck. I really wonder if some old allies (apocalypseplease comes to mind, and BEHOLD!) are still playing.

anyways, uhm.. yeah I think it's worth starting. Also if anyone happens across this please don't MDK me :)
