Buckets in Storage

Postby Sarge » Wed Oct 14, 2009 2:10 pm

Why would a bucket need to be kept in a container in order to avoid having it 'dissapear' over time, when left on the ground?

I can understand that potentially a bucket full of milk or honey need be kept in a container not to spoil, but an empty bucket? Or a bucket of water?

With the already addressed in another thread topic "10 buckets for tanning tub" (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2820), it is already a huge task to fill tanning tubs with 6 or 10 bucket loads of water, to then still have to cater for storage and the task of in and out of inventory of buckets, to and from storage, seems a bit much to me?

Any merit in considering changing empty buckets or buckets filled with water to not be able to 'dissapear'?

If the problem lies in the coding that a bucket either can/can't dissapear, regardless content, then maybe consider addressing 2 issues at the same time - Create another type of bucket, maybe a 20l or 25l capacity, one that can't dissapear. Then it will also not be such a task to fill those tanning tubs... you could maybe consider adding an interesting twist to this in that you need 20 strength before you are able to handle the bigger bucket?

OK, let me stop before I get carried away too far ;)

Or maybe change the shape of the buckets so that they have a narrower bottom than the top, and let us stack them inside of inventories. Sort of like plastic cups.

After giving this some more thought:

With a backpack and no Merchant's Coat, you can already carry 6 x buckets of water = 60 liters water... so for the strength issue to have merit and be 'realistic' I suggest something like this - The bigger bucket needs to be physically bigger as well, obviously. So make the bigger bucket wider, i.e. 3 inventory slots wide and 2 deep, therefore, you are able to carry 4 of these bigger buckets in a backpack configuration. Making their capacity 25l each, you will then be able to carry 100 liters in one trip, adding incentive to get to the proposed 20 strength number.

here's the deal: items that you can carry in your inventory or put in a container will disappear if left on the ground. items that you carry by lifting over your head don't. have you considered having only one bucket and using barrels to transport a larger amount of water? you can fill tubs directly from a barrel you know.

Thanks for the explanation. And I prolly should have mentioned upfront I'm a noob, so I didn't know that  Thanks very much.

OK, so I've built my barrel... now how do I get water in it... and don't tell me with buckets?

Apologies for being such a noob... I'm sure one you've done this, it's simple...

However, I tried filling the barrel with a bucket (singular :P) of water in the conventional way (left click bucket of water in inventory, right click barrel) but nothing happens.

Would you mind explaining how I fill the barrel with water and then how do I fill the tanning tubs with water from the barrel?

(and I'm assuming we're talking wine barrel, 'cause it's the only one I know of, unless I need to somehow unlock another kind of barrel still?)

Thanks in advance for your patience.

You need Winemaking skill to interact with barrels. Yeah, I know, it doesn't make any sense.
