A couple things that make this game really lame

Postby HannibalBarca » Sun Jul 15, 2012 2:43 am

If you are young hearthling heed these rules well.

1. Assume any village more "advanced" then yours is allied with all the other advanced villages. (superlame)

2. Assume if any "advanced" village griefs you, if you do post on the forums, they will always play it off as if they "don't have control" over said members, and that the rest of the village is 100% innocent. (fucking lol)
3. Assume you are all alone. Trust no one. (srsly)

4. Assume this game has been going for awhile now in different worlds and that there is a giant "meta clique" that come from all different towns. (blame irc, skype chatrooms etc, most people are friends now, now and again, they pick on another "advanced" town, (IE odditown, winterfell) while the rest of the "meta clique" keeps expanding. (honestly this hurts the integrity of the game, little is left to chance now)

5. Assume your going to lose, because you will. Griefing noobs is cool. It takes skill to 2 shot a defence bar. (What they think)

6. Assume this game is a waste of your time? CHECK

Add on folks!

This is actually pretty funny. I feel the rage in your post, but still...

#2 just happened to me actually

Also #4 is lol so true

Edit: I'll add one.

#7. Assume when tracking scents if it leads to a "major village", your pretty much screwed on getting justice as 10 freaking Villages and the "super clique" will be on your nuts if you happen to get the thief/murderer :(

So many assumptions in this thread

3. Assume you are all alone. Trust no one.

That's probably the only good one in that list of assumptions.

Not all of the giant villages are allied with each other. I do know that Disran is allied with Melsonia and also allied with Mirror Lake. They also have friendly relation with a few others (not the same as allied) and some members are friendly with some individuals as well. This being side, this is not a complete spider-web as a friend of a friend is not necessarily a friend and one should not expect it to be either.

It's also entirely possible for a minor village to get by living as well by establishing friendly relations with such faction (I wouldn't recommend allying yet though, you don't want such obligation hanging on your shoulders when small). One of the way to do this is by trading. By trading, you both get what you want from the deal, you get higher quality tools and materials, and they get materials that takes much more time than normal for them to get on their own. Not all traders are honest and you will find that some may kill you for your good. Trade small at first and learn about the trader before proceeding to higher goods; and trade using a trader alt. I highly recommend using a village idol to make such transction much easier so you can allow the alt to be oath to the trader's trade village, exchange goods, and oath your alt back.

Do realize that such alliances may form due to natural poltical shaping; some may stay, some may be broken apart.

It may or may happen in time but being negative about it or blowing it off on said village will make things worse on yourself. Perhaps you were at the wrong place at the wrong time where an enemy attack force is attacking the village their are at war with an one spots you and assumes you are one of the enemy, perhaps they have one bad apple and just vents their frustration by killing you while lying to their village about the story. Maybe you are unfortunate to catch attention of a griefer group.

It is a good idea to try to contact the village leader of the matter first but make sure to keep any confidential information (such as location coordinates) away from conversation. Focus on trying to resolve the matter rather than demanding justice or conpensation, such may come if the situation is right and if you are polite about it. This will not be 100% of the case and some people cannot be trusted, so listen to people and talk to them but keep caution first priority.

Correction, be cautious. A health amount of paranoia will help you survive but too much may end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you immediately establish contact with a friendly but organized group, harassing them verbally because you belief they will rob/kill you later will cause negative reaction to you and such can even provoke such an attack if you are particularly belligerent in your confrontation. It's not exactly "treat others as you wish to be treated" but "if you shove someone, expect someone to shove you off, possibly off of a cliff". If you really want to be by yourself, make a strong defense and double wall where the outer wall is far enough that someone cannot snipe you past the wall, now you are left to your own devices to do what you wish.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by meta clique. The political shape isn't always consistent, though admitted some still keep shape. Given an example, Burgingham and Avu were once enemies in world 2 but they were in the same village in world 3 and ran one of the largest village of Haven and Hearth history. Also, expect many people do want to stick with their friends as well as village mate but not all will go well which will force change on the poltical shaping.

There is partial truth in this but not fully correct. You should expect to die in the process of learning this game so try not to get too attached to a character because they got killed by something. Dying is actually part of playing this game. The thing is that you need to learn what caused your death and make sure it does not happen again. There may be some situation that no matter what you do, you can end up dying or you can be a lucky one and never have died at all. if it is the former, try to leave the area or put up brick walls to keep them out of your home. If you feel your knowledge of the game is enough, you may opt to join a well established village.

HannibalBarca wrote:6. Assume this game is a waste of your time? CHECK

Your time is what you make it to be. If it is a waste of your time, it is. If it is a challenge, you want to face, it is. If it is a rogue-like, you are playing. If you are playing a building game like Terraria, you can make it to be. Of coursee learning how to survive first will also be needed first before you can make your game to bloom.

Aside from the last you are spot on. I'm surprised because usually new people to this game don't have the first fucking clue.

Perma death is what drew me to this game in the first place. That and PvP.

Permadeath makes you think before you do things. It also gives you incentive to build (particularly brickwalls).

Srsly none of you people have ever played Dwarf Fortress or UO back in the brutal lag days, did you?
