Insomnia

Postby Owompa » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:17 am

Hey H&H!

Been reading the forums for a long time and love all the juicy drama. Recently I have been struggling with insomnia pretty bad. I can't fall asleep until 4:00 am and when I do I have to wake up at 8:00 am. I walk around all day feeling like a zombie with no energy. It is starting to really effect my social/occupational life. I figure H&H is a game that would attract a few insomniacs so I was curious if anyone on here has any experience with insomnia and or know how to beat it.

A little bit about me. I'm a 23 year old male who works in corporate finance. I exercise everyday and generally eat right. I have had no serious changes to my lifestyle that I can think of that would cause this sudden bout of insomnia. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

tl;dr I have insomnia. Help!

Smoke pot around 11pm, pass out at 11:30-12 latest every night for 4-5 nights and get up around 7-8/whenever fits for you. Stop using pot and stay on the same schedule

I have been struggling with insomnia on and off for years. This is what I do, and how I think. it might not fit for you, but perhaps you can get some ideas.

I would avoid the pot, unless you like it mushy on the inside of your head. But as jordancoles mentions, doing the same routine is right. It`s all about tuning your body and mind in for sleep. Drink plenty of water during the day. We tend to forget that part a lot. No coffee after 6 PM. No TV or computer screen just before you plan to go to bed. It activates your brain and you really need it not to. Depending on where you live, a nice evening walk and a cup of "sleepers" tea when you get back is a good start. Warm bath with some lavendel oil. Make some personal routine before you go to bed. If you are not able to sleep, don`t just lay there. Get up again, grab a book, and try again a bit later.

However, nothing of the above really adress the underlying issue with insomnia. It`s your body and soul telling you that something is off with your life. You also need to figure out what that is.

The only sleep a man should get is when he cant keep his eyelids open. I suggest a good hobby like HnH. If you do it right will very soon notice sleep is getting in your way. Having a healthy lifestyle at 23 is just as bad as a unhealthy one at 60. Best live now before you wake up in 20 years and wonder where you lost your youth.

Thanks for the advice guys. I tend to avoid pot because it did make my mind foggy back in college. I still have not kicked the problem. I will see about trying some of the stuff in this thread to see if this works.

Also I try my best to not live a healthy lifestyle. I work out everyday so I can still drink 30 beers on Friday and not scare the ladies away with my beer gut. : )

I think it might be a mental thing. Maybe I am just getting older and my body has stopped acting like a teenager's. Kinda scary.

No caffeine past noon. no no no.
No sugar for 2 weeks. No ice cream, candy, energy drinks.
No computers or tech / gadgets past 8pm. TV is ok.

Cook your own dinner, no takeout crap.
Warm shower before bed.

If you still can't sleep then read a book, it helps unwind zee brain. Do not go online or stare at LCD screens past 8pm

Sometimes you just gotta put the keyboard down, lay down, and actively go to sleep. :/
