Is this an option?

Lots of people would like it, but no, it's not going to happen.

What if we all got together and shook an angry and demanding fist?

Of course, freedom, liberty, protection from molestation.

Jorb and Loftar both want this game to be played, and Jorb has stated on multiple occasions that they feel guilty about the neglect it has endured. Just because it is their possession does not mean that they will necessarily be unwilling to relinquish it to the community.

The better question is, "Has a release of the source code been requested, and if not, who would like to do it?"

They've said they don't want it to be open source. This is their game.

Also wouldn't open source kinda ruin it since there'd be multiple versions of the game?

I won't act angry or shake my fist against Loftar or Jorb! Got much too much respect for them.

We should think about the HnH game engine / server code being prolly some kinda blueprint for Salem too. So i don't think asking about releasing it as open source makes sense...

It's just the good old HnH immanent thingie how we should act now: with patience ...

The community could easily organize and create a singular development team, or if there are multiple, then its likely that one would "win out". Maybe J&L would be more inclined to release it with a limited licensing option, that maintains their sole rights to ownership etc etc, but allows for the community to modify it.
