What's left to accomplish once you've accomplished it all?

Postby FictionRyu » Tue Dec 04, 2012 2:51 am

I've been wondering, at this stage in the world of HnH, what's left for people who've pretty much "been there, done that" ? What keeps you tethered to this game and continue playing it? You've done everything there could possibly be done. You've been apart of villages ranging from big to small, made art in the mudflats, made every item available to make in the game, you've fought many people and know how to fight as though there's a secret only you know and you're dying to keep it safe...you've done it all.

How do you continue playing knowing that you've done all this stuff? Some incredible things, some not so incredible... are you just holding out until Jorb and Loftar can finally return to the game and with them they bring a complete revamp of the game? I could see how that'd attract one to at least keep an eye on the game..but if I were in those shoes I certainly would just continue to as I do now--lurk around the forums every now and then; but not play the game. Sure, you've got your friends in-game, a place to keep an eye on..but they're material possessions. Thought I can understand that you wouldn't wanna lose all that that you've worked your ass off in the game to get. But if you've died and still have a place to go to, then what's there to do? Go seek revenge if you've been murdered? Retrieve your possessions from an angry boar or bear?

Say in the instance of a world wipe: You know what to do in order to get this, that and everything you lost in the wipe...wouldn't it get to be a tiresome grind? As Burgingham had once said -- and I'm paraphrasing here, I used to have the actual quote in my signature till I changed it -- "the first couple weeks after a reset is glorious, everyones on the same playing field. After that then it's just a stupid number grind to see who can get to q100 first."

I saw so much truth in that posting of his that it's partially what led me to think/make this piece.

I know I may not be everyones best friend, but let's put the pitch forks down and be serious and have a decent little discussion. Thought this'll get a few views, one reply, and then just fade away..oh-well.

I sort of enjoy the grind and the pvp is still interesting and fun to me. Pvp is the driving force behind this entire game for me and getting better is another. If I die I enjoy rebuilding, but dat lag.
I mostly just log on and wall-check and kick over someone's castle every couple of days.

Wthout the lag:

I've been wondering, at this stage in the world of HnH, what's left for people who've pretty much "been there, done that" ? What keeps you tethered to this game and continue playing it? You've done everything there could possibly be done. You've been apart of villages ranging from big to small, made art in the mudflats, made every item available to make in the game, you've fought many people and know how to fight as though there's a secret only you know and you're dying to keep it safe...you've done it all.

I don't see it in quite that way, once you've "done it all", there's then the upkeep of all you've achieved. I'm proud of my village, it's my first one, I wasn't around long enough in W5 to get this far, there are always improvements to be made in design and higher quality to aspire to in products. Then there's the livestock, you can laugh, but I love my chickens, they are one of the highest q things in my village, I can't just sit back and watch them die. :D

I still enjoy foraging, the excitement of finding a high q bluebell or eidel, the fear from first conact with a stranger or for example recently when i was forced to swim for the first time after getting attacked by a bear that lagged at a different time than me, lol, my heart was literally pumping because i thought i wasn't going to make it. (Incidently, this was on my main, who I do leave my walls with from time to time). In the panic i'd forgotten to open up my waterskin so had to watch my stamina draining without being able to drink - then the relief at having made it when i was sure i was going to drown.

Then there's the players you interact with. I have a p.claim for newer people, I enjoy helping them learn the game, feel proud when they get excited at raising their q or discovering a new item, get pleasure from giving them higher tier curio's or goods - in the same way i experienced all these things from my interactions with more established players, and still do.

When the world wipe does come i've learnt so much more to bring to W7, there are also still things i have to experience, i've never learnt to fight, i've never had villagers or been active in a larger village. And there's another thing for those that do run villages or are part of one, it's a community, you have invested time in those relationships and how your village operates, it's an incentive to continue playing in its own right.

The game is more than just pixels - it involves emotions of varying kinds and a social infrastructure, this is what makes it as loved as it is.

With the lag:

Yep, not so much, lol, I play to keep what i've worked hard for all year, I log on, check walls, do curio's and enough farming to keep my livestock alive. The people i'm closest to are all on skype and amongst other things we all moan at each other about the lag rather than cluttering up the forums with it.

i dont play as much, as i certainly havent done it all.

I enjoy specific aspects of the game, i like trading, i like my villagers and the atmosphere of the village when people are playing. I like helping new players and talking to others etc. I enjoy improving my town, seeing things grow in quality. Im not much of a grinder, i do what i can, we dont really use bots or anything to keep quality up, and we certainly dont play all day to keep stats up or whatever else. it's msotly the community/village things for me. if it wasnt for the fact i still have villagers, and we spent a lot of time and effort to get the town as it is, i probably wouldnt play. But theres a lot i'd still like to improve in my town. not jsut grinding, but it's general appearance etc would be nice to do.

Well Fiction - the problem isn't what's left once you've accomplished it all but if there's a game that suits my wants as much as HnH does...to say it musically:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmbaHaiIldA (Mothers Finest - Baby Love - btw. i was at that gig - there are better sounding versions on YT -> 1977 one!)

pathetic? Yes
addicted? Yes
Having still fun with HnH and it's ppl? Yes
do icare about accomplishing it all? No

 ;) :P

The game is player driven, so there are always new experiences.
Not sure what you mean by "accomplished it all"... in games like this you can always invent something new to accomplish.

Im not sure you can accomplish it all very easily. I guess it breaks down like Phaen mentioned. You have to set goals and try new things. Just because you found one way of doign things does not mean its the only or best way. Explore the world.
