Still swimming along?

Postby ninja_yodeler » Thu Jan 31, 2013 11:33 am

Greetings :)

Let's just say on the assumption no one remembers me that I'm a recovering haven addict and have been hearth free for a fair number of months now, but as I never bothered to stop the haven tab opening when I open the internet I've always dropped in to read the forums for a little if anything interesting seems to happen. Which isn't so (publicly) often. The curiosity (no pun intended) has finally gotten the better of me so here we are.

It's clear the game isn't being developed (nothing new, but really, when being paid for something, why spend time doing something quite similar for a total lack of payment)
And even though the population is back to say, world one or twoish on a busy day I'm still curious about the people in that population, as the urge to start playing again has more than once interrupted my various forms of procrastination, for example life.

I recognize a decent amount reputable names on my forum skims (Borka, TeckX, and the like) But are these people still playing?

And the actual playing itself, are there still following the likes of kind hearted phaen, playing for trades, artwork and displaying friendlyness and hope for future?
or is the world full of the great Dhelmed raiders whose greatest acheivement is 300 ua and fought a bear one in an abandoned farm they were "griefing." Before porting home to their illegal vaults that protect them from the ravenous bloodlust and retribution of no one. ever.
or has the game gone to it's third senario and grinding has gone on for so ridiculously long that q10 linens have become prized family heirlooms to be kept in lvl 5 strong boxes buried deep within the earth guarded by a bugged troll.

Just curious about what I might be stepping back in to :)

Let us reflect upon the good he was able to do during his short time in the hearthlands.
Let us remind ourselves of his bravery and willingness to fight for the safety of his friends!
Let us hope he can surpass his previous achievements in his future lives.

At the risk of drawing unwanted attention, I'll say that I still play. I find it an amusing game despite the, at times, mind numbing lag. But I enjoy watching cartoons.

it's this issue of people mistaking convenience for laziness or "casual" gameplay, . . . there is no reason why not to have sacks . . .

No, I think the goal was for them to get 1600 ua and then drop their loot. :)

It has been so long since I last played. Ever since they first introduced the curiosity concept of getting LP (they still do that right?) and the game doesn't seem to have changed at all; certainly not for the better. Apart from having a tenth of the players online that it used to despite having 3 times the lag issues. This was such a good game; so good that I honestly just picked the first thread that seemed relevant so I could come in here and bitch about my disappointment. I love the concept and this could even make a great single player game with a few tweaks but the developers have just gone off on their little pet project of cartoonish fat dwarfish gnomey things in the magical, pay-as-you-go new world.

Ok, I'm spent. See everyone in another few years.

yeah that's all well and good but i feel like at this point we should be thankful there's h&h at all. it costs money for them to run the server even in its current capacity, and they still don't require anyone to pay for the game

How is Salem going for them financially? Are they making a buck off it? I've not heard much about it and what I have heard hasn't been good. I'm also not willing to go try it out myself because I am lazy like that.

I'd love to see some serious effort put back into haven. I would gladly pay for a version where I can play easily. Some scripts for NPC's so I can play single player would be incredible. This game has so much single player potential. Add on a revamped multiplayer server and some well needed updates and this game could potentially make far more money than I'd imagine Salem is making (from my rather uneducated wild guesses). Micro-transactions for things like cosmetics and cloaks facilitated by a Terraria style equipment where you can have equipment slots for stats and equipment slots that are only for cosmetic that overwrite the sprite of your stat armour would encourage this. Avoid the current pay style that is present in Salem and focus on status and bragging rights. TF2 hats are a wonderful example of this although I will admit the scale and customer base is 'slightly' (hah) larger and so helps that out.

Perhaps I have over thought this?

EDIT: Oh, and a smallish initial sale price could even be possible if they wanted to go that route.
