They use a PC that runs solely on steam power for the server.
And the rest is funded by their school/college/whatever you wanna call it.

...its not that expensive.. bandwidth is cheap in sweden, and it only requires a computer or two for servers [web/game]... Why couldn't they afford it?

You see, Fjords are naturally occurring internet hubs. Now, technically they're all in Norway, but a number of broadband-sharing agreements exist in which Norway offers bandwidth to Sweden and receives a portion of the wealth mined from Sweden's massive taco mines.
Surprise.

Afford? The server is a Frankensteinian creation built using parts salvaged from old laid-off 'puters of ours. This technological marvel of the steam age stands in my apartment, on secure footings underneath one of my two computer tables. One pair of old socks -- that should really go into the washer -- adorns it. We don't have any expenses, save the time we put into the project. We pay for a couple of domain names, but it's negligible.

When religions get implemented, I'm totally making one that worships this sock, and I'll crusade until everyone converts to it.

Sounds like an average student life to me.
