The Bank of Brodgar

Postby Yolan » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:00 am

So, I've noticed some higher level people looking for challenges and things to do. Here's a project that I've wanted to do ever since
world 1 (seriously). The Bank of Brodgar.

It's simple. You make a highly secure compound. Let's say, a triple brick walled vault underneath the city. I don't know. No abuse
of authority objects. Inside the vault is a basic organised system for storing and retreiving chests that people deposit in a shared area,
or individual storage rooms for people who wish to store multiple chests and other objects. Storage is open to anybody who is willing to pay the fee.
Security and anonymity. Think Harry Potter's Gringotts. http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Gringotts_Wizarding_Bank

Why?

Demand:

Anybody can store stuff using alts. But if Brodgar is a central meeting place for all sorts of people, then it might be useful. For
example, you could store some goods that are only accessible under a certain password, then when conducting a high level trade with somebody
simply tell them the password for the goods. Likewise, you could store the goods, and if your town is wiped out, simply make an alt
at Brodgar and you can walk into the bank and pick up a chest filled with a starting kit.

Fun:

It presents a serious security challenge. A public bank? In Brodgar? If you really are a strong player with little to do then here is something
to test your building and design skills as well as your strength.

For Brodgar!

If the town had something like this, which would pretty much be a first in H&H as far as I know, it would be the icing on the cake for the town
and really help make it a central reference point for players wishing to trade.

So how about above ground then? One stone mansion with multiple brick walls.

There are too many 'what if' factors. Not even going to mention that you're giving a wide range of people access to your inner walls.
What security? We're talking a bigger undertaking than this game can feasibly handle without it falling all to pieces.
This would all end in tears and buttmad 'clients' demanding retribution and you having nothing to give them but a lovely image of you with your thumb up your ass.

The problem with this really is that you need people willing to roleplay to a certain degree to go through with it since alt vaults are simply the better option for the powergaming community.

Problem is the roleplayers often do not have access to the ressources it needs to pull a project like this off. Not only ressources as in in game items, but also strength, equipment, numbers, etc.

You would probably have to pay people to keep their things here and still many wouldn't agree.

Well, you could still have a bank which takes pearls from account holders and invests in different projects, attempting to make a profit & thus pay out interest :)

I know its not the same as Gringotts, but I think it would be pretty interesting to see if you could make it work.

I dunno... the 'contact' for the bank could be located in Brodgar, but the secure bank itself could be anywhere. I believe the Brick Wall Island Vault is still legal and impenetrable. Set it up elsewhere in H&H but have the 'contact' for the bank be in Brodgar. Only the contact ever goes to the bank to deposit/withdraw items and returns to Brodgar with/without the items.

I've been thinking about building an Island Vault anyway... it takes a crap ton of wrought iron due to the non-square wall design needed.
