Forraging on my farmer

Postby Arcanist » Sun May 12, 2013 4:18 pm

So far in HnH I have been:

1 shotted over my palisade
killed after raiders bashed my palisade
killed less than a minute after logging in (by raiders after ramming my bwall) on my combat char
killed by raiders (as I tried to talk to them on my farmer)
killed by raiders after they oathed to my village
summoned inside my brick wall.

I have only ever been assaulted once while outside my walls, and I ended up stealing his boat.

I'm thinking, I have only ever lost 1 farmer, and every single one of my deaths on a main char has been inside my wall. I'm thinking, it might actually be better to be forraging on my farming char, out of harms way, while my combat char stays in the danger zone, locked inside a bwall.

yeah it's a good idea to keep your combat guy locked up, and use him for combat and tracking scents. situations where "the odds are in your favor". foraging on the farmer might not be a good idea if you've got a lot of LP invested and not as much combat skill. a good alternative is to make a forager alt, just load him up on per food and level exploration and a bit of survival, maybe some marks if you want to shoot critters while you're out. you can make a rather nice hunter/forager alt for less than 2 million LP total

when bandits show up sometimes it's better to let them roll through the village and alt-vault/ship out as much stuff as possible, rather than try to make a stand. this becomes a little tricky in the case where you have livestock, but in any case, scouter alts are your friend in determining your threat level and making a quick safety check before you log in a real character
