Character wipe?

Postby btaylor » Sat Oct 24, 2009 12:34 am

I was wondering, since this game is Alpha and all, will there be a character wipe/map reset when the game goes Open Beta?

This game is pretty unknown and small, maybe they won't do too much. *crosses fingers*

They already have mate.

Old map had a bit more character though. I quite liked the open expanses it provided, the abandoned villages to plunder, etcetera etcetera...

Well that, and I was a newb (still am, by you guy's standards), and everything was exciting and new.

Then I got mauled by a fox.

You are the kind of person that made this most recent map reset the peice of crap it is today. See the RoB and the area around it? See how barren it is and fenced off with claims? Where do you think the XP came from to make those claims?
THAT'S RIGHT, THE PREVIOUS MAP!

100% total wipes are a GOOD thing to do when the game is radically changed, like creating a new playable map. It makes sure things work from the start of a new character; not when a character comes in with all skills active and killing bears in 1 hit while naked.

Yes, but since this is playtesting....renerfing characters every couple of months does not provide effective feedback about the limits of the game at high end. It serves the game well to have playtesters on every tier of developemnt, even if it doesn't serve your ego.

Beta is like....a year away or more. I wouldn't worry about wipes. Thing is.....when a wipe comes, it will likely be because of some massive LP/combat/credo overhaul that was already months in development and incompatible with the old system. Even then, J&L might offer some sort of conversion rate to the new system. Again, so that playtesting on each teir of development may occur.
