Ouya... thoughts?

Postby btaylor » Wed Jun 26, 2013 5:54 pm

You know those game consoles that you just plug into your tv and you can play all these games on it? Well while browsing my morning web comics they made one about this thing called Ouya. So I did a quick Google search and found it http://www.ouya.tv/

It costs $99 and apparently you can play every game from early consoles imaginable such as games from the Nintendo, SNES, and N64 library. Some others are listed too but since I don't really play any of the latest consoles I couldn't tell you what the games were from (talking about the Final Fantasy III remake.)

So yeah, it looks pretty cool. I'm thinking about buying it and checking it out, mostly because it has Earthbound in it (Mother 2) and hopefully a bunch of other games that will quench my nostalgic thirst.

german computer magazine c't had a test in their latest with the package that was sent to early kickstarter Supporters...

(video at page)

Doesn't sound that good... Nvidia Tegra3 on chip with Arm Cortex A9, 1GB Ram, 8 GB Flash (~ 300€ Smartphone) - Fan running with 0,8 Sone (= PS3 Idle sound) - cheap Bluetooth gamepad with bad mechanic (XBox360 Controllers only for very few games usable) - Android 4.1 with remnants of the Smartphonesystem (Flightmodus, SD Card) - slow menu navigation - weird soundoutput when browsing the libary and most of all a very bad implentation of getting / buying games

They need a lot of work to be done before it's ok to buy...

Seems like it's nothing more than a $99 emulator. Pretty sure you can emulate NES, SNES and N64 games for free on your PC.

While it sounds cool, I don't think I would buy it if I could. I guess only because my pc and phone can already handle emulation and gaming in general. Thats just my opinion though so that doesn't mean its bad. IT's just not for me:D

It's a $99 console so that I can emulate old games and play flash games. I think I prefer my computer. =)

Video featuring comments of some youtubers about the "Oh-Yeah" while Mario music plays on the background.

The Ouya is a bad emulator which runs Android OS or something.

I'd rather discuss that Valve's console.

OUUUUWYEAAHH.

I couldn't care less to be honest, at least for the moment.
I also prefer my own computer or laptop :)
But I do think that it has a lot of potential, especially as a device for playing ROMS on your TV.
It's easier than hooking up my laptop or whatever to it.

Xi3's Piston
The price of the console comes in at $1000 (around £670, AUS$977) though if US customers pre-order before March 17, Xi3 will shave off $100 (£67, AUS $97).
The Piston comes packing a 3.2GHz AMD Quad Core A10 processor and 8GB of RAM. Its 128GB SSD can also be upgraded to 256GB for $340 (£228, AUS$332) or 512GB for $750 (£500, AUS$732).
