Humble Bundle

Dead Space 1 and 3
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition
Medal of Honor
Mirror's Edge
Sims 3 + Start Pack
Battlefield 3

Amazing deal, profit goes to charity. All games for about five bucks or more, but you can pay what you want. ~$200 worth of games.

Just a public service announcement.

Unfortunately, out of all of those games, the only one I'd want is Sims 3 and that one would require me to download and install origin, which just isn't going to happen. That said humble bundle is usually an amazing place.

Im in a similar situation, just different games.

Only ones I would be interested in would be DS 1 and 3, but I already have all 3. I was confused as to why 2 was excluded though.

That and Origin... Right. Just about as useful as having an asshole on your elbow.

Dead Space 1 (and not 3 for some awful reason), Burnout Paradise, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, and Mirror's Edge all have a steam key as well. They give you keys for them on Origin, too, so... free games for your tasteless friends.

Its EA's attempt at digital distribution.

Its... Well, similar to how steam was when it first started. Except it's backed by a multimillion dollar company so there isn't much excuse for their poor service beyond it being EA.

Origin is steam except that they violate your privacy whenever possible, provide a service that is generally a drain on your system resources and connection because they have to be always on, and don't really do discounts or sales. The management for it is also abysmal and we've seen more than a few snafus involving lies to the press and gift codes that did not work as intended.

I've found myself fairly disenchanted with gifting games via steam mostly because everyone on steam has such a huge backlog they'll never get around to playing anything you gift them this decade. If no one has any intention of playing the games I gift, I'm simply not going to acquire them in the first place.

Family and close friends only. That way you know if and what they want.

I saw that "gift" thing in Steam not log after I joined and thought "what a clever tactic to get strangers to buy things for each other." Then "And they will probably not play it because it's not 'their style' and it just generates a ton of churn for sales. Good for Steam, generally bad for consumer." And thus my opinion of Steam dropped even lower. If it weren't for the deep discounts you can't get anymore at retail stores, I wouldn't even have Steam on my system. (I miss Electronics Boutique. At least you can still find some decent deals at Best Buy.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Believe it or not, a lot of people actually enjoy owning the games that they play and would prefer not to operate illegally.
