Prowny's Diary - A newb's journey

Postby Prowny » Sat Aug 24, 2013 1:28 am

Saturday 24th, August 2013

It's been 5 days since I started.
My first 3 incarnations met different yet equally terrible deaths (Prowny1 was killed by ants, and Prowny2 had his entire blood leeched away without me noticing the reason).
However, each death made me learn something, made me a bit stronger, a bit wiser.
After abandoning my initial main base, me and my friend W had found what seemed to be a promised land. A place full of goods, animals and LP points. W found a boat, a cart and even an unclaimed house. So we took it as a new base, and we expanded, setting fences to protect our new home. Everyting went well the first couple of days, so well that I kept wondering why would the previous owner abandon such a lovely place. The answer didn't take long to arrive. One day we realized someone had broken the fence and took some items. We were suddenly face with reality. Our home wasn't safe anymore. It had never been. So while W took a brief break, I took the mission to find a safe spot. After walking for some good 40 minutes I saw something familiar. A narrow passage in between (...)
And then an idea came to my mind. There's no best defense than a natural defense.
With this in mind, and after finding plenty of goods both natural and man made, I decided to claim this new land and make it my new home.

It's been 3 days since that. I have spend my time building a brand new timber house, exploring the surroundings and trying to contact possible neighbours. Today W came back and I showed him the new place, he loved it and we started moved our goods from the old house towards the new. It is clear though that the best tactic we can follow for the survival of our group is to remain as hidden as possible. While always friendly and peaceful, we shall keep this principle in mind when interacting with neighbouring villages and tribes.
All these thoughts come to my mind after meeting the first actual strangers in my short hearthling life. A woman wearing a silver plate called Stoneface, and a nameless soldier with a strange hat. Stoneface surprised me in the old base, while I was trying to lift a table. I have to admit that when I placed my sight on her plate, I thought my time had come. Luckily, her first words were "Hello" and " I mean you no harm ", which was followed by an "Thank gosh" exclamation from me. This woman seemed very brave and kind, and after memorizing our faces we parted ways with good wishes.
All these thoughts come to me while I carry our cart back to our new home ( I had to make a stop to chop down a silly tree that got in the cart's way).
All I can do now is keep working hard, looking at the future.
And keep pulling the damn cart.

Prowny5 has been killed by a boar.
This is a tragic loss but it shall not stop me.
Prowny6 has been born!

I read the whole thing and seemed pretty cool, i dont think anyones ever done something such as a Diary before, something usually new explorers do in a real world situation.

There have been hundreds of diary threads though they typically last around a week and then forgotten.

Sunday 25th, August 2013

It's my first day as Prowny6, and I have to say it's been much better than I thought.
I regained a lot of LPs quickly, and I'm still studying curiosities at full capacity, so hopefully in a day or two I will be where I was before I met that terrible beast!
I dedicated the day to pave the ways of the new base, aswell as placing stones in the borders for the future palisade.
I have to admit I enjoy paving and placing stones, it makes me feel good to build something from scratch.
I also did some farming, I need to gather more straw for the chicken coop I'm building and then, since W already has animal husbandry, we will be eating eggs! This would be a much appreciated change in my diet, specially since I learned that my favourite meal so far, rats on a stick, aren't really good to improve my stats!
Another thing to add is that I found my third, fourth and fifth strangers today! The first one was asleep in his leanto. He seemed to be just starting out so I built a crate on his camp and put a dead rabbit on it so that he can build a saw and get some LPs. I also carved a runestone with my name so hopefully I will be hearing from him soon!
Then a while later while I was hunting more rabbits, I found a couple of guys building beds. At first they were a bit reluctant but I insisted on giving them a hand, so I left them with 2 more rabbits and added them to my kin. Looks like I'm making friends!
After that I kept exploring a bit and came across the remainings of a town that seems to have been raided. There were crops left unattended and two corpses, aswell as an abandoned mine... it was a bit eery. With much grief in my heart after seeing so much destruction, but also aware of my own precarious situation in the world, I harvested some wheat and found the straw I needed.
After such a busy day I went back home for a much needed rest.
Oh and I almost forgot! W made me these lovely bunny slippers, they are the cutest thing ever, even for a manly man like myself. I honestly can't wait to craft new clothing, but I guess that's a story for another day!
