To Mod, or Not to Mod....?

Postby Whitehyena » Fri Oct 11, 2013 2:36 am

So I've been playing H&H plain-jane for about a week, and I have to say, I'm hooked. It's such a fun little survival game that is challenging in it's own way, and I am so very wonderstruck by it.

However, I look at all these mods for the game - all these clients. Ender, Gilbertus, Zhivago's skins... so on, so forth.

I'm curious about them. But at the same time, I'm afraid to install them. I'm not going to lie, I'm fairly derp-tarded when it comes to computers, and I read about how the slightest error can cause game crashes, and glitches... and I read that sometimes these clients crash and glitch on their own, too.

I suppose my question is if getting these 'mods' are worth it - if the things that they add are ultimately worth the additional complications of modifying the game? Or should I simply stick to my vanilla game?

Obvious troll.

Anyway, Ender's is a must in my opinion. It gives the zoomout boost, the object hiding, night-effects disabling and alot of more. I can only recommend it.

For ultimate HnH survival feeling the default is prolly the best - but for playing Ender is recommended...(or if you want Bots Ender forks like Union)

For graphic mods just create a folder named custom_res in Ender folder and drop mod in there, to test different mods just rename the folder and create another one to test a different mod till you found out what the structure of res folders is to make it fit as you want it

So, for the what.... last... two hours, I've had it, Ender's client has ultimately paid off several times. I already decided I'mma keep it. I was able to spot boars and bears CENTURIES before I normally would've. And it actually saved me from one coming dangerously close to me. From behind! I know without Enders, that crap would've killed me, and I've gotten so far with Nino, it would've brought me to tears. (Not really, but still!). The extra belts help out, but combat is still a little confusing, and more importantly, I'm so weak right now, I can't even kill ants.

Thanks everyone for their oppinion, support, and comments, (and Jordancoles for his what I'm going to consider 'Welcome' trolling.). But I would well say that this topic is closed. For everyone wondering the same I am: The answer is indefinitely to mod.

I was actually quite afraid of this. I should've left well alone.

So, I was FINALLY able to make a Stake Claim post, relieved that I should now be able to protect my hard-earned rewards with a claim... Only to find that for some reason, the game wasn't letting me do anything but make the little square. I couldn't 'place' it, and I couldn't do anything to it. I tried all the kinds of clicks: Shiftleft, shiftright, ctrlright/left, regular clicks... and nothing. So, I got to looking, and I saw somewhere that Ender's Client has an update - and that's what's stopping me. Okay, okay. That's okay. More downloady.

But the update had a res folder in it. I was like, 'Hey, I already changed the res folder because I installed Zhivago's skin mod.' So, I simply didn't replace the res folder in HnH_Ender_32 folder. Makes sense. I placed all the other programs in there....

But now, my game will not open.

I have tried rectifying the problem, by simply removing all the programs I just added. Makes sense.

Still won't open.

Huh. That's teh suck. I wonder what went wrong. Let's at least get my claim before going to the forums....

At least my autohaven still works.

Edit:
So, after a little bit of tinkering, and getting less ground than Obamacare is right now, I decided to foop the entire thing, and reinstall Ender's Client.

Which worked!

Unpacked the update: It worked!

Tried to re-introduce Jackard's res mod?

Fooped it.

I suppose you can't run the two together? Oh well. On a side note, though, I think I might just not keep the update for Ender's Client, now that I've staked my claim. For some reason, it won't let me spawn where I logged - even though I'm sleeping in a bed. Plus, I kinda like Zhivago's avi's. I'll think of something.

so long as the res mod is placed in the correct place, itll work with enders. Those mods should work with any custom client you can find.

Mods like jackards are supposed to be placed in a folder called custom_res, not the res folder. Typically you will have to create this folder yourself. It should go
Code: Select all
HnH_Ender_x32 > custom_res > place files here
for reference.

I would suggest that you keep your enders at the latest version though, as the updates are rather important to keep everything working properly.

Baby I like it raw, but I definitely like to mod it when it's raw
