Stage of this world

At what stage is the current world in?

Is it a good time to jump in with a completely new character and have a little hamlet in the little of nowhere or are the superpowers actively hunting down every hermit out of boredom?

Also nice to see that there where a few ''updates'' in the past year, although from the few threads i see not everyone is happy with them. Something about swords and rams, never got much out of them as a hermit anyways.

Just play the game, the stage of the world doesn't matter if you make a brickwall and pay attention

Just do this as soon as possible, and don't be one of those guys on the forums whining about how their pali was bashed.
If for some reason you can't get a brickwall, you *might* be good with a pali as long as you leave no scents that can be tracked back to you, don't settle near a river, and all that good stuff.

I find myself wondering, has anyone found a way to pinpoint your location in the game world or is it still look at the world map for hours looking for familiar landscape?

Personally, I find my location on the map by giant white thickets. Although if you use a custom client, I believe they have a script to identify your coordinates. Link to world map in case you don't have it: http://sabinati.com/HavenMap/

Also, I recommend going straight to a brick wall if possible and log everything important on an alt. Palisades just aren't worth the time investment anymore.
