Need people to talk to in game

Postby Dreadloche » Sat Jan 25, 2014 9:36 am

Lonely, need players to talk to in game and bother with endless questions. Also, please describe the PM function syntax as /pm /tell and /whisper don't work.

Ironic side note- I will be moving into the wilderness in 2 weeks time and need to literally set up camp and survive. No water or electricity. Imagine that.

You can't just message anyone. You first have to find people to talk to. You do this either through the exchange of hearth secrets here on the forum or you can memorize and kin each other if you run into another person in game. Note that you do have to at least have each other memorized to carry on a conversation at a distance. You can then strike up conversations via the Kin (Buddy) list. Being a member of a party or village will also let you chat with others over a distance.

Or you can skip all this, go to The Wizards' Tower and download Ender's client. Follow the directions in the thread to use it. Once set up, there's a "global chat" courtesy of a built in IRC client that automatically connects you to the server and channel #haven2.

Bit of advice to beginners: few are willing to pass out hearth secrets or invite them to their village, and especially not party with them. If you are interested in a group, check out Dwarves & Thieves for villages recruiting. Look up the information about Brodgar there. They'll always take in new players and hermits (note that there are some requirements).

Global chat u will find in the menu that opens when u click the red cross that is over an orange/brownish background, then you need to click the icon that has a "Hi :)" written on it, over a drawing that seems to be a sky and grassed land with some blue water.

Most of H&H players use skype to chat and trade, much more than the ingame systems, as we do switch a lot from one char to another and it keeps records.

Skype is of spotty use. Yes, a lot use it, mostly because it's free and it does log what is said. if I wanted logs of detailed posts, i'd set up a free forum for my village. You then can do so much more. Skype is great for what it is, and it isn't for what so much of this community uses it for. (Not to mention the atrocious beast that it is.)

I prefer IRC, and a lot of the community here uses #haven (rather than #haven2) with a web client like mibbit or a stand alone client like mIRC. #haven2 does get pretty quiet, especially now when there's only a couple hundred players on at any one time, many of which may be bots doing routine chores.
