A few questions

Postby anas » Mon Jan 27, 2014 1:29 am

1.) Was this game made for the purpose to study human psychology and behavior? Maybe write a dissertation about the result? (Or just sell the results to some psychologic involved companies?) =)

It gave me a nice insight on architecture of the human mind - and that just as a player. Must be imense if you have the server programmed to analyse that whole collected stuff...

2.) Am I allowed to refer to some points of this game in my own dissertation/article/book in relation to human behavior? Would give a nice example.

3.) The game is not playable on a i5, 2gb ram let's say "usual office computer" because of imense lags. Why do i need an i7,16gb ram and geforce 660gt gamer machine to play a pixel style game? (Both on 64bit Linux.)

Wrong forum ... should be better at the Inn...also these are no simple questions ... ;)
There's enough stuff to read about what HnH is i.e.
http://www.havenandhearth.com/portal/about
http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/vie ... f=6&t=1161
or old Announcement and Inn threads

1.) No - but they called it a "Social Experiment"
2.) probably you're allowed to refer - afaik others did before
3.)
i5 2GB should be enough to play - it's mainly depending what graphic core your i5 has ( ?HD4000 :( ) - and what drivers you have installed...and there's no problem to upgrade your Ram i guess ... so don't put the blame the Devs ...(better on Intel)

My PC is for sure lower (except using 3.5 GB Ram including graphic shared memory) and i can play fine with it's low Radeon 2100 graphic GPU in AMD APU ... even in 1920x1200 and 2 -3 clients running ... atm i'm on 3G connection which slows it down - with DSL i was even capable to run up to 8 clients the same time ...

...and you don't know lag yet :P

Ok. Thanks. :)

I don't have a special additional GPU on that computer, some intel onboard thing. But onboard things was years ago able to do some 3d Morrowind or other stuff...so i thought it should work.

8 Clients. Wow. How do you manage that mentally or do they just wait in your home to get hungry and get some stones? (I just hat two and was ever afraid of enemies...)
You cant just send someone fishing, someone hunting, someone here and there and then be on another client. Then another player comes and your fisher is dead/robbed when you didn't notice or arent fast enough to react because you have to to something on another client.

So maybe some players using this style of playing kill some newbies just having alot clients open and have their chars on auto aggro? Is that how it works???
(Do auto aggro work on water, hunting down something, going out of the boat and killing it?)

(Anyway that would be a nice application for Linux multi desktop switching thing: 2 monitors, 4 desktops=8 clients and then just switch desktops to have the other ones.)

I know the graphic is build in the CPU chip (but as i don't know what i5 Model i don't know what graphic is inside) - you need to know there's a difference between DirectX and OpenGL (on Windows) - Intel is known for not that good implementations of OpenGL drivers)

There are sure some more using more than 2 clients at a time ;) And yes i even ran a 2 Monitor setting sometimes and i did the normal stuff you do at HnH - like building a Palli at one place with one client, another Palli at another placer with the second and the third was farming and feeding animmals ... a fourth was grabbing the fibres of third ... and yes even men are capable of multithreading ;) (sometimes)

I don't think PKers (Newbie Killers) do it that way and to be honest there are only very few of those (most are Lowbies anyway) - for sure there are much more serious PvPers that aren't interested in PKing at all. (Auto Aggro works on players only - there might be hunting scripts for animals too)

With growing experience you loose fear because you know how to act and not to get in situations you don't want to get in besides being able to handle it . Sure a bit paranoia is immanent in HnH :P

Guess with Linux setting up multi monitors doesn't need an "application" as switching desktops doesn't - have a look at man pages or your Distris Userforums

So your using auto tree cutting and building walls scripts? Or manual Fence building?

I lost my main char on the river in the boat, some highly equippet guy came there with a metal helmet, one hit, dead.
So was this an auto aggro error then? What should i have done? That thing followed me like a robot....

Can i destroy fence doors and Statues of the chieftain with a battering ram or how does that work?

Linux (Ubuntu) does multidesktop that out of the box, and for multiscreen it's just the nvidia driver.
But i can't do that game in 1920x because I can't see the icons then, i use some 1400x.... <.<

The game just isn't optimized much at all.

No scripting/ botting here - why should i play a game when i don't play it myself ?!? :o

Mustn't have been auto aggro - you can right click a char and "Follow" - guess you really nned to play more to see how stuff works... ;)

Fence you can destroy with bare hands, statues with low Auth by Ram, Sledgehammer, Pickaxe ...

How can I escape them? ... There wont be time for the hearthfire teleport.

When aggroed already you can't TP anyways ... only thing you can do is booking it as experience ... also how often do you think this situation happens ?!?

1 Pker opposites 150 players giving hands ... in my opinion nothing to worry about (also it was worse in other worlds) - PKers leave scents too and a lot of skilled Fighters / Rangers love to track

All Pkers i came across or heard of had short lifes
