Well what if they get a palibasher later? Or if they see me while I'm building? I'm still very new to the game and I'm in no condition too take on anyone.

Everywhere you go, someone will try to kill you eventually.
Build a palisade and then get a nice big brick wall asap, and you won't need to worry.

Even with a bwall you aren't safe. The only safety is others fear of you. The meek and the humble always get the worst lot.

There is no true safety in haven, but with a brick wall you don't need to worry about people killing while you're afk in your house (provided you ramcheck).

Also, make sure that when you set the palisade CP, you're there dead on 12 hours to build it, or else you may find it sealed.

Don't tell me I'm wrong and then parrot me. Bwall offers a margin of protection. Far better than palisade but not total. And seal CP when your done so you aren't griefed. There is never absolute safety but there are certainly things you can do to minimize risk.

Step one: Exploration skill up. Make an alt.
Step two: Claim (Yeomanry). Have one character used for mining/hunting/exploring/etc, full Industry, Your main. Have the alt a farming alt, full Nature.
Step three: Palisade. SEAL YOUR CORNERS AFTER BUILDING YOUR WALL. OTHERWISE PEOPLE CAN EXTEND + BLOCK YOU IN.
Step three.point.five: Grow some grapes, make lots and lots of wine.
Step four: Make a "Key Alt" (Another account/character that holds your key and only logs in to let you in/out). Also, Exploration & Marksmanship skills up.
Step five: Brick wall.
Step six: Village Claim, so you can hide all your keys on your alt and use "Crossroads" to get in and out of your compound, therefore not needing your keys, therefore safety and shit.

All super duper fantastic tips for protecting yourself! There is one more I can think of though. Try to keep away from building near rivers as much as possible until you can build a brick wall.

Here in the hearth lands, rivers are roads! And sometime bad people like to drive on the roads.
