I agree. They do shit that they know will provoke police, just for the sake of doing it. It seems not to be a protest rather than a cry for attention.

That said, whips?? What are the cossacks up to?
Just arrest them if they're doing something illegal, rather than hit them with whips and let them walk away.

That doesn't send the right message. You need to be oppressive if you are trying to stop people from doing something. Beatings are pretty common in Russia. Its a different society.

Russia is still a corrupt shithole with draconian laws even 25 years after the fall of communism.

The orthodox church and corrupt heads of state are to blame.

I don't particularly support pussy riot's methods but I do support changing laws that infringe the liberty of an individual and individuals as a whole, the russian police and army will suppress anyone who isn't happy. Take the construction workers for the acomodations in sochi for example; they were being overworked and underpaid and if they tried to speak out about their poor conditions they were harrassed by the police and some even left the country.
