The green circle I can see when initially placing a village idol is how many tiles in diameter?

Yep, that's the extent of your village claim. Once built, it may be extended with banners (every 2 feet) and / or statues (every 10 feet).

I think the radius is 35 tiles. If you place it in one corner of your screen you should be able to see the edge of the claim.

it's also like 8 meters for banners and a bunch more for statues... 20 or so
