It wasn't released or open to the public, it was a file you could google for that was being hosted on this domain that the devs used to test the game. If you didn't have an account then you couldn't do anything with it anyway and, surprise surprise, only the devs had accounts.

What it does mean? The devs are polishing up code so that an alpha will be available at some point.

You don't get early access to the game though. You'll have to wait with the rest of us.
