Cyberbullying - In Regards to EVE Online

Postby Vaku » Wed Mar 26, 2014 4:01 am

It's blowing up into a thing. I feel that since this game shares EVE's demographic, I would also share my concern here because I recognize myself as part of the MMO Sandbox community.

I do not have a whole lot to write at this moment, but I will provide my stance on the topic; that to humiliate an individual in such a way that it abandons game-mechanics and becomes sadistic is not an activity I feel should be allowed.

I take this topic to you fellow gamers in the hopes that you share my sentiment on this topic and police yourselves and those you've sway over to not become bullies.

Welcome to the internet. I will troll you. If not me then someone else. If that offends you all the better. Grow a thick skin and flip them all off. Don't be a cry baby. And as far as eve, don't be retarded. I need to hire these guys. I have a special prison for them to run.

I would deal with them as I would any scammer. Troll the fuck out of them.

Hah, what a retard. Nobody forced him to do that, he did it all himself. I'd even go so far as to say that "cyber bullying", as a whole, is a crock of shit. And what rules did he break exactly, humiliating someone? Since when is that against the rules? I don't remember EVE being a carebear game... maybe they changed since last time I checked it out. And they're calling him a victim of torture, really? Really?? That's just offensive to victims of actual torture.
Man this society... it's just falling apart.

Maybe something like this will eventually happen in Haven and Hearth? I hope it'll be just as hilarious...

I'd argue that was less a case of cyberbullying or trolling or whatever and more a case of scamming. One player scammed another. From that standpoint you can look at the existing rules and ask yourself whether it is the job of the development team and game to defend players from their own naivety. In my opinion, it's not. You're an adult who deals with real life situations constantly, you should be expected to be able to handle some degree of coercion.

That and he could honestly just leave the game if it were that bad, or make a new alias or something. Like, it cant be torture if there is an easy way out, as easy as just leaving the game. If he went silent for a while all this stuff would peter down in less than a month or so.
I get EVE is one of those games that requires like 700 hours of gameplay to do anything it, but baisically what the guy is saying is that hes being "tortured" , but not bad enough to abandon online assets.
Not only that, but anyone who knows EVE knows that trusting your money to a "money doubler" like that is like trusting a spam message. I had a guy in my alliancs who did it once with the same guy doing the same thing, thouh there was no leaked file for him since he wasnt important.
Baisicaly they made him say stupid crap for his money then scammed him.

This"CyberBullying" buzzword that is being thrown around like fucking candy (by adults of all things) make me want to fucking puke. Its yet another pseudo-issue for bleeding-heart crybabies wanting an empty cause to feel righteous about while they sit on their fatasses, stroke their yap-dogs, and continue to ignore homeless people and others who really do need help (liberals). Same thing with this newly found infatuation with the word "bully" itself. More evidence of the continued pussification of western culture.

Guess what: kids bully eachother. Always bullied. Always will bully. If they can't bully eachother face to face, they'll bully eachother on the internet. Crying about it and proposing draconian legislation (which social pseudo-issues like these always lead to) wont change it. It just makes everybody's life shittier, bullies and "victims" alike. In fact, kids NEED bullying. It teaches them social skills. Teaches them how to control their emotions. Teaches them how to fight. Teaches them humility. Teaches them how not to be a pussy.

Such an empty, 1 dimensional, fake issue this whole "cyberbullying" thing is...

+1 to that too. ^
Ive always thought the same thing, though this ia kindof different here, since they were grown-ass men and are making fun of him for stiff he did in game and the lenghths he went to to get his money back from the.money-doubler guy.

I'm in agreement with the rest of you, the unfortunate victim of this scam was clearly not using his brain at the time and in my opinion deserved losing the things he handed over if that were the case. However, it still amazes me the lengths some people will go just to get a laugh, and they were also making fun of this poor guy's wife. I can only reason that these individuals have been treated similarly in life themselves and in turn share that treatment with others. I highly doubt they have ever or would ever speak with a person in such a manner face-to-face.
