FORT BALLSACKS TWO

Postby ScrodumGod » Wed Jul 02, 2014 11:45 pm

So there is a new update of dwarf fortress, now we will try fort ballsacks again.

The game will be based off Boatmurdered, just like the Fort Ballsacks. Essentially every one gets one year to rule over the fort, and then post what has happened in it. If you don't know how to play, we could randomly put your name into the game, to make it more interesting.

Rules:
( Copy and pasted from the boat murdered rules )
"One year = one turn, from spring of one year to spring of the next. Once you see the cheery green "Spring has arrived!" text, save it, zip it, and get it to the next player. Upload it to rapidshare.com or something similar, and post the link to your savegame so the next person can get it and begin. Feel free to break your turn up into a bunch of posts, but let's try and keep it moving along.

Once it's your turn, you get a week from the time that the link is posted to take your turn. If you start but can't finish, your successor has the option to pick up where you left off and play out the rest of your turn and their. If you don't start, then the old savegame just goes to the next player. If you trash the fort to total -- and I mean TOTAL -- unplayability (e.g. magma flood oh god), we'll revert to an old save, but overcoming setbacks is half the fun, so hopefully we won't have to do this.

Pretty much anything goes except for the following: 1) using huge bridge hallways to kill demons/seiging armies, and 2) things that make later turns totally unplayable such as flooding the world, mining adamantine, or removing bridges in creative ways so that the pathing eats it and the bridges can't be reconstructed and the fortress descends into an orgy of violence and starvation. If you do this, we roll back to an old save and everyone gets dwarven blue balls (which are shorter, but stronger, than the regular variety), so nobody do this please."

The only thing that is changed is that it is desired to finish the turn in under 3 days, if you don't post anything before that, then a skip might happen.

I would reccomend to use dropbox, because you just right click the zip, then make a link.

Might want to wait on a couple of bug fixes first, but as long as it's "generic" (no need for add-ons other than using Therapist at most), I'll be game.

I'm game too. If I remember rightly I have way more hours in DF than I should have.

I'm really curious about the new update, I'm willing to start the succession immediately when it comes out, so no mods or graphics mods will probably be used. We could probably change the font file, if we want :/

I looked at dwarf fortress, however all I saw was the matrix. How is this fun for you people?
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Well, most of the people who started playing haven were from dwarf fortress, like there's even an item that was made for them ( battleaxe of the twelfth bay ).
How is H&H fun for you people?

I wouldn't say most. Early on it was a large portion and there was a Bay 12 village. The thread there has mostly been dead the last couple of years (since about w4-5). It is how I found out about the game while I was looking for an alternative to EVE that had the same "Losing is fun" attitude and rogue-like feel. There's also been a ton of Goons and 4channers here, and even a small following on reddit (though I don't know of the status of any towns they may have developed over the years).

I have to agree. I can tell you I am borderline OCD and show some Asperger-like symptoms. Which are you? :P

Mostly I like making things burn, though. You don't get into trouble for burning down virtual houses unlike in real life. ¦]
