No, it was the work of about two weeks.

Edit: and four bars of it had been in the crucibles for almost forty eight hours.

Any trade with more than 16 iron bars, more than 16 wrought or more than 10 steel are suspicious.

For obvious reasons i suspect thieving people come from mordor.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Two pieces of steel were done. Which makes me all the madder, as that steel was for my sword, and I was just waiting for Kran to get on to make it for me.

It's highly suspicious whenever the person is trading more than four pieces of wrought iron or two pieces of steel. You live in one of the larger, more successful cities. It seems different for you. As it is, our group of three dedicated members has never had more than two pieces of steel in our possession. A thief would be a newbie, someone who I assume wouldn't have the means to make steel or wrought for them self should be easy to spot. And any amount larger than two coming from a noob should be considered as suspect.

If you need some replacement metal, give me directions (a map maybe, I suck at finding stuff) or stop by Clayshire! We'd be glad to help.

Thanks. My code of honor wouldn't let me keep it though-say we'll borrow a sword or two until we've killed the thief. My wish remains to help you. It is a sad switch now.

Now to get the murder skill and investigate newbies.

I am more than miffed. That was many many hours of labor in the mine and at the forge.
I thought I was making iron for tools but all I have to show for my effort is a large pile of rocks and dross.
At least the foxes that kept knocking me out had some fun.
