Tales of the Hearthlands

Postby venatorvenator » Tue Sep 30, 2014 10:39 pm

In my time playing I've come across weird, unlikely, embarrassing, and awesome stories about things that happened in-game. I was wondering if others also have something to tell.

I'll start with mine:
- Right after my first deaths I started visiting the forums for tips and came across something repetitive. I was aware factions existed but didn't know their exact names. I started seeing things like "then five dhelmers appeared and killed everyone inside", "fuck dhelmers", and "dhelms rule". My immediate thought was that dhelmers were part of a faction, called Dhelm.

And this happened to a friend:
- He decided to track some scents he found, and did so for two hours, going over two supergrids to find the perp's hf. He found the hf, inside his own village, and realized he was tracking himself all along.

Sooooo yea.

Just read "tale" in topic title, thought I'd read a sweet hand-crafted hnh tale, then comes this shit.
Please, next poster, do not include words "forum", "dhelmer" and all of that kind of shit for that matters, and give us a good H&H tale.

OP you fagget

For long-winded stories go read Vaku e.g. his Edelreich thing. It's neat and he's passionate about it.

For a short story go see this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29715

For cursing at me in size 20 font: go ahead man. I remember you. I considered letting you join my old village but decided against it when you said you didn't want to work too much and needed everything ready for you to use. I was ready to give you a starter kit with q250 seeds, tools, and basic gear. I see now I made the right choice.
If you want a piece of literature, and one written in a certain way to please you, with or without specific words in it, it's best if you write one yourself. Your tastes are clearly too refined for me.

This was my first multiplayer online game and I was incredibly nervous of having to talk to another rl player, unaware of enders I would hide in amongst tree's and behind walls whenever I saw someone. The first time someone stopped and tried to talk I couldn't work out how they could know I was there, I figured they must have caught a fleeting glance and were just guessing, afterall, I was hiding behind a palli, lol, I still stayed there and just ignored them, eventually they said "Lol" and just walked off.

Don't I feel stupid now -

Can't remember willing to join your village, though I recognize myself in that, I'm not of the hard-working type.
I've just mined out 6k tiles on L5, built the bwall around it and 3 plots all alone...

Though thanks anyway for the links to real tales.

This :D

Though really once I managed to get a village out of this, early world.
Seen some HF up inside, waited behind a wall, few minutes later, someone gets back carrying his boat, key-keeper magically spawns, took my shot and got him.

Though I love the idea of hiding behind trees, and maybe bushes, there should be something like this in game.

There is a way for jorbtar to program it so you can't mod the system for day/night hide/unhide. Maybe they will for hafen.. i hope. The only way night time will be bearable though is if they make night pitch black like a cave, and then just give you a small radius around your character in which you can see. Otherwise it will cause a lot of headaches and eyestrain. The radius could be smaller like 1 tile in a cave, and perhaps 3 or 4 tiles above ground during the night.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I do miss the old days when you would find just the right trees along the river to stash your boats. I hated walking through broadleaf forests then though because bears could easily hide behind the foliage of all of those trees (in pine forests it'd have to be particularly dense for bears be completely hidden). Heh I remember one time I was walking then I stopped behind a pine tree then noticed the yellow outline of myself and then a boar-shaped outline near the base of the tree, and was "oh no!" right before it aggro'd me.
