Ateraan is a text based MMORPG.
Text based means there are no graphics at all. Your imagination has to work.
Good point is this enhance the gameplay to high levels.
For instance, you can "feel", "smell", "listen", "taste" or "look" at things. And you'll be given a description of your feelings.
Ateraan is oriented on roleplay.
For those who are unaware of what that is, it means that you are basically acting as your character would.
For instance you won't say : "25 HP HELP", you'll say "Oh guys, I'm badly hurt! Would anyone heal me?"
Or "I'm level 12" but "I've passed my twelveth grade".
There are many different races to pick from : http://www.ateraan.com/races/races_kingdom.html
And many different guilds as well : http://www.ateraan.com/guilds/guilds_kingdom.html
These are only for the kingdom (where noobs must start), but there is another kingdom with other races and guilds.
Guilds are awesome, there are a lots.
For instance, there is a merchant guild, and when you need to buy something, you'll have to trade with a player.
Also there are politics, you can have a role in it, be a marshall, or the almighty leader of one kingdom.
Actually relations are quite tense, that may lead into a war.
The progression is quite slow but really rewarding. Don't hold your breath until you hit the highest level though (nobody has it yet).
To start you'll need a MUG client (I recommend Tintin++ : http://tintin.sourceforge.net/download.php)
Then when you launch it, just type :
#session at ateraan.com 4002
That will take you into the game, where you can chose for your character name, race, and roll the dices for your stats.
Exploration is a big part of the game. Or at least, the part I like the most. Whenever you get to an area, you can feel it, and interact with things in it, and maybe discover stuff. Or die actually, if you are not paying attention.
There are lots of death traps...
When you kill a creature, or die yourself, if the corpse isn't buried, then it turns into an undead, these are a really powerful version of the creature.
There are tons of things to do in game, from PvE, to grinding (trapping / fishing / whaling / ...), to exploration, to socializing, ... (panning / crafting / cooking / ...).
If you are looking for a game, and aren't afraid of RP, then I'd definitely recommend you Ateraan.
