Player Teleportation or a the luckiest(Unluckiest) Situation

Postby hwen4 » Mon Nov 24, 2014 11:54 am

I'm a rather new player (Played for a few months in the past, just returned for another take at the game.) and I have discovered the "First" characters while travelling this morning. They were two slavic folk, and I had the common sense to get off my boat, and let them have it, them knocking me out in the process.
After travelling further inland, I returned to my hearth-stone only to find the man that almost ended my life coming up on my counter; thinking it was some sort of cruel joke, I ran into my house, only to get knocked out again by the same man who nearly brought my life to a close.
Is there some skill that allows you to track down engaged targets hearth-stones, or teleport, or something?
Or am I just one of the luckiest hearthlings that had a close call to death twice in five minutes?

Yes, if you have tresspassed (requires no skill) or committed some other sort of criminal action.

A tip, unless you are going to teleport away, and you are out of range of the other player, NEVER get out of your boat.

Most players kill if they KO, and usually a 45 minute boat chase isn't worth it to kill a newbie.

You'll want to be careful committing crime, as if you do, then you can be summoned at your hearth fire and killed while you are offline.
Tresspassing fortunately isn't that serious, but with scents you can run, but you cannot hide.

Hm, I don't believe I trespassed (Or have done any other criminal activity). I was on the water, and landed on unclaimed territory. The reason I got off the boat was because while I was *Attempting* to communicate, one of the other players got on my boat, and I assumed you could get hit while another is on your boat.
Along with this, I ran about ten minutes, five north, five west, and assuming they also traveled by boat, I wouldn't be in a good amount of "Range."

Just did a short sweep of the area and luckily no one grabbed on. I'm going to check up in the next few days as I establish my palisade (Don't kill me, it's only be 3 weeks most since I've rejoined.) They didn't steal anything, so it must've been a grief. Hopefully the future will bring better safety to myself and my friends who are joining up soon.

Another fun bit (and one that seems to have not made it into the wiki): criminal acts that leave scents on property also deal damage to you. One HHP per scent left.

Yes, I was rummaging around a couple of abandoned settlements and suddenly realized 'Why am I down to half HHP? Dafuq?!'.

It pays to be polite in HnH.

If you think people wanting to kill you are near you and might come back, move somewhere else. Just hoping they won't come back tends to lead to less-than-desirable results.

Also, don't count on your palisade to save your ass. There's a lot of players capable of simply tearing a palisade down without any preparation (strong enough to not need a ram) and people like that tend not to care about leaving scents. You're not safe unless you get a brickwall up. (Assuming you're not living in a place some powerful group of players considers their turf or something. Brickwalls are safe unless you anger the wrong people.)

I don't think they wanted to kill, suggesting how they have yet to return, and didn't kill me the two chances they had.
Also, a question on scents:
When travelling through territory over water, does that give a scent of trespassing?
In addition, when teleporting to your Hearth Fire, do any scents allow the other player to teleport along with you?

If you don't get off the boat, nope, it's not leaving scents.
But when you have get off, when you've moved from the tile where you landed, you should have left trespassing, because you Walked on a claim and the only way to walk on it is to have the skill on
