I don't really think this is such a great innovation. DosBox has existed for quite a while already and is easy enough to use.
But, but...
I agree with Burntime. Sweet memories.
Maybe you also remember Pizza Tychoon, the Clue and Amberstar.
Daggerfall was nice but I never finished it due to getting bored at some point. It was also supposed to be my christmas present when it came out but the shitty delivery company made an accounting error and sent it christmas next year. Was a bit of a surprise, the not so good kind.

I never got into X-Com Apocalypse. The previous two parts (which are almost identical) seemed much better to me. Those unofficial X-Com games that some russian (I think) company made years later were surprisingly good too.
Anyway... have some suggestions for good games from me as well:
(this otherwise useless knowledge has to serve some purpose for once)
Strategy: Master of Magic, Master of Orion II, Ascendancy, Syndicate, Colonization, Heroes of Might & Magic III (or was it II?), Emperor of the Fading Suns
RPG: Albion, Dungeon Master II, Realms of Arkania (Trilogy), Whale's Voyage
Adventure: Lands of Lore, Monkey Island 2, Beneath a Steel Sky, Discworld, Simon the Sorceror
Simulation: Buzz Aldrins Race into Space, Mad TV, Princess Maker 2 (don't judge

- awesome game)
These picks are a bit random but they're all great games with relatively polished graphics and controls.
