why is this called a permadeath game?

Postby broghk75 » Fri Feb 27, 2015 12:53 am

as I read the active topics I am sort of puzzled by this.

to me if this was a permadeath game, then when the char died there would be nothing you could do to influence another character.

no inheriting previous stats
no using "prayers" to get former character stats added to yours for a time
no getting the land "left" by the previous owner(though I do think having the land "willed" to you works this way in game now, but I dunno)

I mean it seems to me that with everybody using alts(me included) what do you really lose if your character dies? doesn't everybody make back up characters?

Being of an age where I remember games before there were options to save and if you quit or died you started all the way over, you really don;t want it as true permadeath.

I remember those games.

when I thought permadeath I always thought of the arcade games like donky kong or even spy hunter. where you die 3 times you either dunked a quarter in or it was all over.

I also remember some win 95 rouge like games where you saved Or played the game and if you dies there, you started all over.

i'm not asking for true permadeath games, just wonderin why people call this game that is all.

People who really understand the game have stopped trying to call it a permadeath game. Sometimes, death literally makes your character more powerful than before, even.

right..
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

right..

If the first of a bloodline dies and has stats 1000/1000, then he will inherit 750/750 and have a 500/500 einher, making him 250/250 stronger than he was before he died, and accumulating numen is trivial for endgame players. This is just one example.
