Not what I was expecting

Postby JeffyCZ » Thu Apr 09, 2015 6:35 pm

A new player here. So after a day of playing, learning the mechanics and reading the wiki, I found a boat and started exploring the land, after hour or so I found first player south west of my initial spawn in a huge stone fort. He started asking me where I am from and if I can get on skype invited me to his kin (not sure what that even is) and when he let me into the fort, his buddy ran to me and killed me and then both started laughing.

I came to expect scummy players in games like DayZ but I was expecting more mature crowd here, well at least towards new players. I mean what do you have to gain by killing a new player? Couple of apples and a branch? If this is the attitude of players here, I guess this is not a game for me. I guess this explains why barely anyone plays this.

Barely anyone plays it because everyone who has ever played it is waiting for a world reset so they can be good like the big faction people, only to find playing from the beginning is not why faction people are better, it's dedication - and then they wait for another world reset. So you have 400 constant people, and like 2000 lurking if there's a world reset.
Not sure why you expected a mature crowd in this kind of game, DayZ has immature people because they get a kick out of making permadeath happen, and Haven is even more permadeath (with a smaller playerbase) than DayZ. So if one of those kids sees someone in a long time and they need their "i just made someone cry" kick, they will kill that person no questions asked.

If you are searching for a sandbox multiplayer game with a "mature audience", you will be searching until you die of old age. If you don't like it then I encourage you to give up or change your mind.

Not all of us are 13 year olds who get off on shoving swords into defenseless new players, but there are many of them, and you have to accept it.

Don't try to find any logic in it, there is none.

The developers are working on a new version of the game and these same type of players are the ones who seem to be quite dedicated to this "version" of Haven & Hearth and complain to Jorb and Loftar about how they don't like the look of the new version, etc. and wish they'd just keep working on this one so you'd think they would care to try and keep new players but no, they could care less.

And Kaios is right in that there is no logic to it, it has always confused me, more players = more action for those that play for the pvp but targeting the new players means this rarely happens because the majority of newbies will decide it's not worth it and quit.

However, if you can take it as a learning experience and get past it, this game has so much more to offer. There are also many players here, including the fighters, who would rather help you to develop and try to encourage new players, not all of us have the same attitude, just like not everyone is into the pvp side of it. But, you do have to have some steely resolve and a thick skin to get past these kinds of incidents. You will have things stolen, you will get raided and you will die, not always at the hands of the other players, lol, even the sheep are deadly here.

Haven can be tough but personally I think it's worth it in the long run, a day of playing before this happened is unfortunate because you haven't experienced enough of what the game has to offer. I think you should return and either stay away from other players for a bit or join up with an established village who can offer you a bit more security whilst you learn, then you will see why I'm vouching for it. It's honestly not all bad. :)

I see it as a natural filter of sorts. The world of H&H is harsh, and if you can't handle it, it's not your kind of game. It's not most people's kind of game. Better to find out immediately than to get hit with the ugly truth after putting in a lot of effort.

There are good people who play and many of them are willing to help out. However there is also the hostile crowd. Most any game has them anymore so please try and stick with the game long enough to find good people. It may change your perspective more.

Either way I wish you luck!

The natural filter that sorts out those that get owned and teabagged in FPS all the time (or are on banlist for cheating and aimbotting) ?!?
Then coming to HnH to pk starters ...

It should perhaps be noted that the attitude of the playerbase is not an intrinsic feature of the game, and that if you don't like it, you could even work to change it. :)
