I Rarely see anyone there but do sometimes if you go often enough at different times. Hell I rarely see anyone anywhere period. I think it is because the game is so vast that running across another player (unless you are heavy in a tribe) is not the usual thing during a playing session...lol But they are there, just widely spead out over the game area.

Brodgar is largely unpopulated. Last count there was about 5 active players around the city, and 2 are on their way out.

Game isn't really friendly enough to people who want to live in a public setting :(

from what i have seen, this game promotes people to go farther out in the map... so people do and then you see less and less of people. if for example, you could fight stronger animals closer to villages, people probably wouldn't go way out into the wilderness to live.

every time i see someone, i think they are either looking for someone to kill or are looking around for places to loot

I agree, though I do enjoy soloing, I think several aspects contribute to it. The unbalanced desire to have a mine due to need for metal = dissapearing out into the wilderness. The perma-kill I suppose does attract a very mentally unbalanced group, as difficult as the game is to get highly skilled and the overall atmosphere which would tend to attract a great many quiet life players, to destroy someone's character for no reason is quite demented. The fear of losing one's character to this is another real reason people live so seperatistly.

I guess ya just have to try to have fun despite rarely seeing anyone or interacting with other players.

You raise a number of points I agree with. Permadeath combined with heavy grinding characters and an otherwise peaceful atmosphere is a recipe for a forum full of angsty threads.

We know that permadeath isn't going anywhere, and that the peaceful atmosphere is a large part of the game's draw. I suppose that making the game less grindy is the only option, but for some reason users and devs alike recoil at any suggestion to lower skill costs, increase FEP rates, or make resources more available.

That's not to say the game should be easy, or that trade should be irrelevant. Just that dying shouldn't drive you away from the game permanently because you just threw away six months of play time.
Surprise.

This is what they need to do to fix the problem of never seeing anyone:
-They need to redo the resources on the map, make it so their are concentrations of un-exhuastable & unclaimable "medium" resources around areas that are "natural" village spots. they could basically plan it out so some villages have 1 high resource type while others have another so they have to trade.

-they should make the villages affect animals less. making villages reduce animals around them makes people want to start further away from other people.

-maybe make it way harder to start a village and give benifits for being in a village based on the number of active people in that village, maybe everyone in the village is partied together, always, and you get bonus exp from it, like in diablos party system.

so what dose the above accomplish? it makes so people want to stay in larger villages, people will not sprawl out onto the map as the "natural" village locations probably will be better than plopping a village down just for 1 higher quality resource in the middle of no where. there will be no benfit in living out in the bush by yourself as there would be a greater benifit to being in a active village. high quality resources could still be way out in the middle of no where.

i think the above would make a better game environment.
