An upcoming change, and some other crap.

In case anyone cares, I turn 15 on the 21st. I'll finally be able to get a Learner's Permit. Which brings me to the question: Hearthling age. Good idea or bad idea?

-Sid Meier's: Pirates! Was an awesome game. But the age mechanic annoyed me. I'd have a fleet large enough to rival Edward Teach and I'd be forced into retirement.

+Age could be an interesting game mechanic. Village elders?

Other stuff... I'm quite frankly losing interest. Once you're set up, it gets fuckin' boring. I might just abandon lake flaccid and go deep into mordor, just so I can have a bit of excitement. Of course, that's completely insane because my UA is like 17 :|.

Even if I don't go into Mordor, I think I might abandon lake Flaccid anyway. Having so many fucking crops is making me have to build 4-5 cupboards every harvest (and low standards prevent me from grassing the majority), and it seems I have to plow a new field every harvest. That, and living so far from the RoB makes trade difficult. I may just become the village merchant and build a claim near the RoB and sell our wares.

And even IF interest picks back up, I have a 57 (in the American grading system, that's a failing grade) in Algebra. Not so much that I don't understand, more like I'm a lazy asshole and never do the homework. So I've got shitloads of extra-credit work to do so I don't end up failing this semester. Meh, what can ye do?

So, just in case I do end up taking a hiatus, Au Revoir mes amis.

I found that interest comes from playing with people.

There are bad aspects from playing with people in heavily traffic areas sure, but at least it's not dead boring

I must agree theTrav. I probably wouldn't still be playing if I hadn't joined an awesome village.

Aging significantly over a period of 4 months (1 hearth year, I guess) would probably be longer than a large percentage of people would play. On that kind of time scale, the only thing I would seriously consider to actually be an elder (not even old) character would be one played for at least a few real years. Anything less than that seems excessively short-lived. Presumably the workers start their lives relatively young. And they have a tendency to die a lot and be quickly taken over by their inexplicable offspring. Aging is something few people would see.

Indeed, we are acutely aware of that fact, and in fact, when we started getting players back in May, both Jorb and I were completely convinced that noone would stay for much longer than a few days, or a few weeks at most, for that precise reason. Of course, we are aware of the fact that more people make the game more interesting, but even so, we have been constantly surprised over how long people have actually stayed around. Needless to say, though, we've been enjoying it tremendously and thoroughly.

To be honest, this is the main part of the reason why we call the game an "alpha"; in my mind, we have hardly even begun working on the actual "game" itself -- what we've been doing so far has mostly been developing the core systems required to start on it. Content-wise, we've still hardly even decided where to start.

Well I don't know how the game was, but as of now there are mainly two points which, for me, make the game far from boring:
1) The quality system: one can aspire to have the best quality stuff in the game, and this is not easy. The things would get obviously better if one could modify the soil, water, animals q.
2) The weekly updates: the game is in constant evolution, and even if sometimes we get somehow screwed up from some changes, they are mostly interesting and attention-catcher.

PS: There is also a 3): I want but am not being able to find a f***ing mine yet :D
