Small Player base?

Postby jacksonblue » Thu Jun 04, 2015 12:48 am

I have recently started playing and noticed there were quite a few abandoned villages around where I live and have yet to see another player. Is this normal? A large amount of the appeal of online games for me is working with others and I was a little sad at the lack of other players

Yes - this world is running since June 03, 2013 so a lot of people went inactive for different reasons - on the bottom of Home page you can see how many players are online atm of writing there are 155. As the world is large and players live in different timezones it may happen that it takes even days 'till you meet someone.

In Dwarves and Thieves you can ask for companions or to ask others and while everywhere else at forums english is must you can write there in a different mothertongue aswell

There will always be abandoned and decaying villages, hermitages, and newbie camps in the game as players join and quit. Due to the permadeath and destructive nature of Haven players are cautious about who they talk to or let into their villages. Many players teleport away when they catch sight of other players they don't know. If you want to work with others then I suggest posting in the Dwarves and Thieves subforum. Otherwise if you play for a few days you generally end up running into other people by sheer chance.

The start of the new world for the next build of Haven will be utterly brutal and you'll likely be killed on sight by most players if you aren't familiar with how to establish yourself and defend yourself. I'd suggest playing around in this version of Haven at least a little so that you're comfortable with the mechanics. Otherwise, you never know if the guy down the river from you rushed to get Murder right away and is looking for some easy targets for early resources.

Good luck! =)

Yea, the fact that the first to discover a good nod have an eternal avantage make the begining of the world a mess.
Could i suggest the dev to find a way to make the quality of the nods to be only revealed as time pass.
Like the Q90 nod will just show Q10 stuff first week, then Q15 next, and so on until it stay at q90.
I now the survival skill was tuned for that but honestly you can make it to 100 quite fast.

Yeah, this is a concern that has bounced around a lot. They tested a different system entirely in Salem to mixed success and, as you said, they tested the quality hardcap with survival. They'll likely keep experimenting with systems until we get something exceptional.

I'm having the same experience. Met about 3 people so far. There's a thousand giant walled up villages and no one is ever in them. I leave runestones and get no responses. I'm about to start breaking in and stealing stuff just to get someone's attention.

Most people aren't on your timezone. Even at my most active I had people calling my village inactive when they went by it because they never saw anyone standing at the gates. Good luck with the breaking and entering spree. This is very likely to attract attention. =)

Also giant walled up villages have the action going on where your viewing distance can't go - it's called sniper range.
