Impossible to get beds

Postby Orion » Mon Dec 28, 2009 10:47 pm

Now that people spawn randomly, and animals attack in packs, it's seeming impossible to make a straw bed, only because of the hide.
Solutions?

Trade is not acceptable solution since animal husbandry pack is out just few days. Jorb already noted it and I hope he will make some upgrade of it.
So you should make that bed with feathers. And pray of course.

can't use a rabbit hide? the major block for me getting a bed is my current lack of wheat... i guess i could build a fancy bed once i have flax producing a bit more, but beds suck anyway, so fuck it.

Well, i don't have flax yet either, or hemp. Haven't found any.
I think the hide should just be switched to 4 leather.
and I kind of need the bed so I can trade, so it's a catch 22.

I gotta say, I hope this spawn everywhere thing is temporary. As I mentioned in the dev thread, I just don't think its a good idea long term. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Way I see it, there needs to be some kind of upgrades to village/town code that enable better player fighting of blight that makes it hard for early players. Highway/road supporting code is one part of it, so that people have clear paths to follow out of somewhere. Good, safe, signage is another. You know, actually pointing in a direction.
Sanctuaries/parks of some kind is another, inside of which trees can be manipulated but not cut down, etc.

Newbies starting _anywhere_ seems very odd to me in this respect. I think random location gens for newbs should be restricted to low lvl civilised areas. I know only bears are aggro now, which I think is mostly a good thing. However do we want people loading in some woodland somewhere a gazillion miles away from anybody, considering that the world is supposed to, theoretically at least, be infinitely extendable?

What's the problem again? We still have charterstones and secrets for people wishing to start in civilization...
