is sidestep broken?

I was trying to tame a goat, but whenever i tried to use sidestep to get some combat advantage, nothing happened and the game made some weird sound. I know that it was using the maneuver because my combat tokens where used, but it had no effect. Why?

The weird sound normally indicates that you did not match the requirements to use the maneuver. So are you sure you had those 3 coins of initiative when using sidestep?
