purchasing bear meat

Postby theTrav » Sun Jun 14, 2009 4:20 am

TheTrav of lake town is paying 5 steel coins per piece of raw bear meat.

I'll also sell you carrot cake for 5 wrought iron coins. Unfortunately I don't have enough cake to trade cake directly for bear meat

-EDIT- sorry, raw, not roast, typo in my original post

Wow! If I sold you this bear meat I have, I'd get 5 steel coi-- wait, I can't do anything with 5% of a steel bar. That's worthless to me.

How much you pay for it in wrought iron bars?

P.S. I would suggest buying raw bear meat and making it into bear salami, a single bear salami is enough to boost my str by 1 point. (My highest attribute is only 23 though)

That would be a pretty expensive waste of resources. Bear Salami has a total of 35 FEP. And you have a very good chance of upping your charisma instead.

I've eaten 5 or 6 of them and gained 1 str each time, never any cha. Are you sure you're right about that?

(Of course, I looked on your chart earlier today and didn't see it or roasted bear meat there, so I figured I'd try the sausage and see what happened)

I have gained cha from eating bear salami before. Not near as much as str, but it happens.

You could trade a lot more bear meat and end up with a steel bar, or you could buy a crap load of other things with your steel coins... That's how currency works.

I'm afraid I don't have any wrought iron bars, but if you can produce three pieces of bear meat I'd trade a wrought iron bar for them, I guess that makes 33 wrought iron coins to the piece of bear meat which makes wrought to steel 33:5 approx 6 wrought iron coins to the steel coin.

I have considered making it into sausages, first step though, is to obtain the meat.

My stats are all higher 20's str is the lowest. I'm boosting it with boar meat but that is a slow process.

I'm not an archery character so I more or less am forced to trade for bear meat. I have access to a reasonable quantity of steel and iron though, which is valuable to everyone.
I've also got a high nature skill, so grown or baked goods in bulk is something I can provide which can save you time if that's of value to you.

Hopefully you are serious about making some form of trade, and not just being a jerk and swinging your dick around. If you don't like the prices I've quoted above, please feel free to make counter offers.

I'd give one bear's worth of meat for one bar. That's eight slabs. A little less than you've been asking, but I think it's a fair price.

I'd throw in a few teeth while I was at it if you wanted.

I can only assume you mean 8 pieces of bear meat for one steel bar... that's 100/8 = 12.5 steel coins per piece of meat, over twice the price I originally suggested.
I'll have to talk to our village hunter, but I'm fairly certain that you can kill and butcher a bear in less than the 58 hours it takes to produce a bar of steel.
Not to mention that you get the hide and teeth and bones and guts
(assuming their of any value to you. They're not to me as I already have a bear cape and an amulet, but maybe you could find someone else to sell them to).

I think it's pretty unlikely I'd take you up on that deal. I could probably go two bears to the steel bar, that's 16 pieces of meat 100/16 = 6.25 steel coins per piece of meat, but I'd only do that price if you could actually produce all the meat at once (bulk trade is valuable in itself).

I'll post again if I find another bear (not sure how long that will take), but you had unfortunately posted after I had found, killed, butchered, made into sausages, and eaten the one I found earlier today. Though I do need the str myself.

The 3 meat for 1 wrought actually sounded fairly reasonable to me, although I'd probably deliver an entire bear at once, which is 8 meat of course. And as the other guy said, perhaps you would like to buy the teeth, or bear tooth necklaces made from them, too? I got 4 from the bear I killed today, don't know if they always drop that many.

The bear tooth necklaces add +5 str and I think +3 cha.

I just cut a much better deal with Blaze in Clayshire, so I doubt we'll be trading. I misread your post and was thinking ten coins for one bar of steel. I'd be willing to trade 15 meat for one bar of steel, but not too much more. You need to take into account the LP that was needed before we were powerful enough to take on bears.
