It was nice knowing you Wrought Iron. I didn't have you for long, but someone else will soon.

And the saddest part? I will never know what its like to have steel now. Someones just going to barge in and take the iron out of any crucibles I make.

Great.

Build a vault. i can sell you some plans for a 100% thief proof vault. Also, i think you underestimate the fact people can be caught stealing a hell of a lot easier now and its effect on peoples desire to steal.

Is it a vault that griefers can't permanently seal?

It just got harder to seal vaults...if someone drops a claim on a village like has been happening, the villiagers can just carry on and ignore their "crime markers" unless the villain is strong enough to beat them all, in which case....well, at this level of civilization might pretty well makes right...

And I JUST realized that you probably mean sealing a vault with a drying rack. Ah that old chestnut. A few warbears are what we need. Or even just stormfoxes.

If he drops a claim on the village, the villagers will trespass, and then he can get their footprints, and then he can gleefully find their hearthfires, and summon and permakill them.

If the summoning works LIKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT SAYS, only theft, battery, and murder clues can summon players.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

The largest problem is that if someone steals from you (or attempts to do so), at least one of those three will usually be required for justice. Forcing you to risk online death just because you dare try to deal with a thief is incredibly wrong.

And here people say I'm complaining about nothing, but what Malicus says is the only thing I'm really complaining about.

"The Cycle of Retribution" will likely become common place.

nothing is ever 100% griefer proof. Deconstruction abilities and shared claims are my picks for the two best griefer discouraging tools in the implementation pipe line.

There is potential for a cycle of retribution, however I tend to play (and indeed live my entire life) under the assumption that there are more good guys out there than bad guys.

Frog caused a lot of heartache to the bottleneck citizens, however I'm pretty sure he got his just deserts. I haven't heard of any more recent attacks he's made on them, so maybe he was sufficiently deterred.

The guys who stuck a claim up in shadyacre barely lasted 3 days, I find it hard to believe they profited from their activities or are likely to return again.

Drone, you've got a point, I accept that the cycle is there in potential, however I'm not at all convinced that it's the end of the world, and if it is, the dev's will come up with something new and fun to change it all around again

This system is completely broken. I thought this game was meant to be a sandbox? This is not what I had in mind.

If someone steals from me I should be able to shoot them... What can I say? I just don't like this system. I agree with having tracks and all that neat stuff, but crimes? Summoning? For Christ's sake, we don't need that. It's simple, if someone steals you get the clue, you get the name and the direction and the time of their theft and go out to hunt them. Same thing with murder and battery. I guess I agree with practically everything but two things, and that is if this game is meant to be open, then these things shouldn't have such severe consequences. I'd never thought I'd see the day where I'd actually support stealing, but if I see a guy stealing from me, I should have the right to shoot him. That makes it pretty even. So here's what I say in point form.

- Thief + Kill = Crime? WTF
- Ditch the summoning.
- Keep the tracks for each form of crime.
- Remove any kind of immediate punishments ie ones that other players don't impose upon the criminal.

Then we're good. Then the system wouldn't be broken, and defending yourself + your property is not a crime.
