Other games you play or have played.

Since Jackard was looking for this sort of thread as he mentioned in another I was just reading I thought I'd give it a go. Talk about what other games you play or played before you came to H&H.

Games I currently play:

Battle for Wesnoth - Turn based, fantasy themed, Open source Strategy with sinlge player campaigns and multiplayer scenarios and PvP. Hundreds of user made addons and it's own markup language for user made content.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - Haven't played this as much, i'm still something of a noob. It's a WWII themed FPS with elements of strategy and character development. Wins are based on offensive and defensive objectives rather than kills.

Alien Arena - I'm a pro here. Long ago ID software released the Quake 2 source code and several mods have been made from it. ALien arena is the longest surviving and arguably the most popular. It has a growing player base with every update. THe engine has been cleaned up quite a bit and significant graphical improvements made. Anti-lag is in it's finest evolution since the 7.33 release. You can almost always find a game for CTF and two or three weekly tourneys are held most often for instagib.

Warzone 2100 - Just downloaded this Open Source RTS strategy game. I'll edit later with my opinions.

Games I used to play:

Runescape - My first MMO. If nothing else it taught me a lot about what I don't want out of an online game. =)

ShadowBane - Until its demise at the release of Age of Conan and Darkfall. Many of those that made the disappointing exodus have returned to the SBEmu project to ressurect Shadowbane by emulating the server code and. ETA for live is overdue but speculation is for something this summer. Recent updates have given promise of a much sooner release. Shadowbane is a PK-almost-anywhere with only a handful of safezones on a fixed map. Gold is gathered and XP is gained by WoW style farming but character development is very rapid (a couple of days of dedicated grinding can produce a max level char). Gold is used to purchase buildings, walls and upgrades for player guild established cities. Mines are fought over for mineral resources that are used to produce high end weapons and armor. The game is highly PvP but mostly GvG (Guild versus Guild) with major GvG events being held to siege or defend cities or mines at prearranged times. Players can create a huge variety of characters from several races, classes and professions with a high level of customization of stats and skills to make character building a highly debated issue over optimal design choices. Servers can be made ARAC (All Races All Classes) and Lore (Guilds must choose a faction which limits race selection and race selection limits available professions). The Emulated server will likely be ARAC until (if ever) a large enough player base is formed to support a lore server.

And yes everything I've mentioned here is free to play. Although I did pay for an RS subscription for several months.

I liked Wolfenstein until someone decided it was a good idea to make bots with deadly accuracy.

I like the Civilization series, currenty been playing Colonization while waiting for the apocolypse. I have played most MMOs except the hardcore PVP/PK ones (darkfall, UO, Shadowbane). Runescape lacked 1 key feature for me, the ability to group. It's a single player game in a multiplayer universe (this might have changed recently).

Liberal Crime Squad (open source version)
Doom Rogue Like
Open TTD Deluxe
Minecraft
Incursion (warning, current release is buggy as fuck)
Hammerfight
Majesty 2
Mount and Blade
Company of Heroes (multi player 2 player ladder matches only, patches but not the expansions)
Go (yeah it's a board game, but it's awesome, http://www.gokgs.com/ up for a game whenever I'm online and not at work)

I play

- Dwarf fortress
- Warzone2100 (one of the best rts games out there IMO, despite it's age. Also, very kind of the original developers to donate it to the opensource community)
- Warrior Kings: Battles (because it takes an original approach to differentiating tech trees, and because the AI is damn good at kicking my ass)
- Aurora (still trying to figure out how to succesfully play that, geez, the learning curve :p)
- Morrowind (keep getting back to it every now and then)
- Nethack, TOME (2 roguelikes)

I used to play a lot of

- Civilisation series, including alpha centauri
- Master of Orion (I)
- Starcraft

It now has some minor group functionality but it's still pretty much a kiddy myspace. There was always the pirate game (can't remember offhand what it was called...) but that was the only decent multiplayer game in RS. ALl it's PvP was pretty much lame as fuck.

As for wolfenstein...I just can't get into the goal-oriented play. I've been a quaker for too long. If bots with deadly accuracy bother you then AA prolly aint for you. I know some human players that have accuracy that put bots to shame.

It's too long of a list, been playing games since Mike Tyson's Punch Out! on the NES, but the online PC games I've played so far have been:

- Ultima Online
- Ragnarok Online
- EVE Online
- Tribes 2 & 3
- Quake 2 & 3
- Duke Nukem 3D (MP on Patch)
- Lineage 1
- Infantry Online
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Half-Life 1 & 2, bunch of the mods (CS, duh)
- Starcraft, Warcraft... All sorts of craft by Blizzard
- Battlefield 1942, 2 & Bad Company
- Planetside
- Kingdom of Loathing
- Any Civilization game I could get my hands on
- Master of Orion 2
- Bucket loads of emulated games with Net play
- Granada Espada (sp?)

I'm pretty sure that's all of'em, got Xbox LIVE and a ridiculous amount of single player games for the rest, irrelevant.

What sort of games are we talking about here, just games in general? online games? or specifically MMOs?

I always loved playing boardgames and cardgames, as i grew up, had a family that loved playing boardgames and cardgames.

Once TV-games was introduced i just loved that. Started with commodore 64 i got it secondhand from a friend its one of those where you had to put a kasette tape in a little taperecorder just hooked up to a keyboard and a TV ha ha :D maby you guys are too young to remember those tho. Then i finally got a Super Nintento, ZELDA for the win :D loved that game, also liked finalfantasy etc etc.

i wasnt really in to PC games but when i met my boyfriend he draged me in to the online games world, so i usually just tell him its hes own fault when hes asking in the middle of the night, when are you gonna come to bed honey? he he  i just blame him for my addiction muhaha  well he introduced me to Counter Strike wich was my first online game ever played. Got quite hooked on that for several years actually involved in CS clans and such.

After CS era i we went on to World Of Warcraft, started playing with the burning crusade, together with some of my boyfriends friends. So we have been hooked on that for several years now aswell :s

Then we decided to try out Warhammer when it came out. but it was lacking to much, some things where better then wow but some things where simpley not thaught over at all, it lacked in crafting for my taste, i didnt like the graphhics compared to wow. At the same time wow stole a lot of the good stuff from Warhammer so when the next Expansion wrath of the lich king came out, i was stuck on wow again.

One day one of my boyfriends best friends mensioned that he had heard about a game that was all about crafting, and gave me a meaningful look since he knew i like the crafting part a lot, and offcourse i had to try it out, so here i am! Hooked again on yet another addictional game. :P

Tryed many different sorts of PC games in between the online games, dont have time to rabble them all up here atm, had a quick try with Dungeons&Dragons Online aswell etc etc
