The obligatory music thread

Postby 32012323 » Sat Feb 27, 2010 2:21 pm

Hey guys,

I'm pretty bored, these past few weeks have been pretty stimulating so tonight's a let down. I'm getting back into live music events and it's been a pretty big past few days. Naughty by Nature (twice!), Kid Cudi, Busta Rhymes, Salt 'n Peppa, DJ Z-Trip, Chase & Status and the Killers (not voluntarily, they really... realllllly shit me). Me and a few friends had met Methodman, Redman and Prodigal Son from Wu-Tang earlier this month too. Meth and Red were looking to score some weed and Prodigal Son dipped in to a friend's work place to hit on his co-worker.

I've got a couple more events coming up, but the reason for me making this topic was for me to ask what sort of music you're all in to.

Me personally, I can't listen to trance, techno, most country and jazz/soul. So I stick to hip hop, metal, rock, R&B, pretty much any alternative I can find thats got a decent beat.

Right now I'm going through Jay-Z and Nas' discographies.

What are some of your favourite artists, tracks and genres? Do you have any gigs or festivals coming up? Kill some time, let me know.

EDIT: Keep your criticism to yourself so it's a lot more accessible for everybody to post.

Everyone you just mention are gangster thug criminals and all there music sucks. They should not even be allowed to make music. Anyone that talks about how many women they can beat or how many cops they can kill should be brought down to swamps were I live to see how long they survive. :)
Edit: Basically talking about killing or beating anyone in music should be grounds for expulsion from the music industry.

That's great, so do you listen to any kind of music or was that just straight up trolling?

I'm confused, Akon has tracks just like those you described initially, why do you listen to him if that's the case?

Ive only bought one of his Cds( not sure of the name) and the only track i can think of that was anything like what i described is the one he apologizes for everything in toward the end of the cd ( again I do not listen to it that much so I do not remember the name). Now he does have so duet tracks that I do not like.

That's a pretty limited perspective on it, but it's not like I'm going to sit here and criticize your taste in music. Maybe I should've mentioned that earlier... Time to edit that first post.

ill admit, that i do not like your music. but it is your opinion. i listen to different types of rock, and thats about it. rap can kiss it, most hip-hop is just as bad, country can be good sometimes but not often, but rock is rock and there are only a few bands/songs i dont like.

Have to +1 the ungrimm statement about Thug music. But moving on.

I listen to all kinds, from bluegrass to heavy metal. (only genres I cannot get into are Opera, Jazz and rap).

As for my favorites, my favorite Genres would be punk riot grunge and Heavy metal.

Favorite artists, Stevie Nicks (rock), Courtney Love (Riot Grunge), Curve (Industrial Shoegaze), Doro Pesch (My avatar is her new album cover, heavy metal), Juliette and The Licks (Punk Rock), Kate Bush (Ethereal), Alice In Chains (with Layne Staley, new AIC sucks, No Layne-No Chains, grunge), Bitch Alert (go figure huh...lol Riot Grunge), 12 Stones (grunge rock), Armin Van Burren (Techno DJ).

That's just a sample of my favs but enough to give ya an idea.

I lovvvvvvvve Alice in Chains, Rooster's as close to my favourite song of theirs as I can get. Really? You're not a fan of William? He's not too bad, I saw him at last year's Soundwave festival and he didn't do too bad. I'll admit though, he doesn't hold a candle to Layne but I like to think he does the band some justice.

That +1 thing was way over my head, I don't even know what it means.

Have you heard Parkway Drive or Killswitch Engage before? They classify as metalcore but damn, they get a crowd kicking and roaring.

Any favourite bands in particular viking?
