A better combat system can only be introduced by the devs, not by us. So as long as we are stuck with the current system, we need to find ways around its obvious flaws.

You know I just love the way people automatically assume trapping animals is akin to cheating!

I mean in real life, you drop your coat and wrestle foxes, hogs and bears IN THE MUD like a real man, not like using intelligence and planning (wut those are, durp?), like... TRAPS?

No. Traps are so lame, if the uber strong animal cannot maul you to your face while you try to rip it's spine off, it's cheating and exploiting the system.

Well real traps have been suggested over and over again. It is not that you are wrong, but the "traps" ingame are an abuse of the current gamemechanics and were not intended to be used like that.

Congrats to both Chakra and friends for winning the bear hunt trophy, and to the developers for making a sandbox game where this is possible.
I can hardly see how traps could be made more "real" than this.

I am not saying it is perfect, and traps could need more love, but I definately prefer this kind of mechanics over "build the magic trap-building, and feed it stardust and whisper winds until a bunny pops out from nowhere."
