On Taking Un-Claimed Resources

Postby Firefox » Mon Mar 08, 2010 1:22 am

Let me begin by saying that I am a rather casual player and only log in for a few hours each day to tend the crops and tan the hides. I have no desire to wall in my claim and I understand that leaves me vulnerable. That aside:

I logged in today to find that my drying frames had been stripped of the hides that I had hung there yesterday (and yes, they were off my small claim). Ok, no big deal. It's a couple of Q23 boar hides. The 'thief' had moved one of my wicker baskets in front of my front door, indicating that perhaps they'd left something in return. And indeed it was a Bear Tooth talisman, Q59. Now I appreciate the gesture and don't begrudge the person who took my hides, but if you are the person/someone who did/does this kind of thing, please put a little more thought into what you leave in return. Yes, the talisman is nice, but consider that a talisman is something that a person will only ever need once and that if they were capable of bringing in a few boar hides they'd also be capable of bringing down a bear. If you take something valuable, leave, perhaps a handful of good q fish, a wild windsown seed or two, some chantrelles or cave bulbs, or even a metal nugget that will offset the LP/usefulness loss of whatever you happened to take.

All in all, I won't begrudge you if you take a small amount of the bounty I've accrued on my claim. Just try to leave something of equal value/usefulness in return.

so why dont you at the very least fence in your claim if you are making high quality products? its slightly more protected since it requires vandalism for them to pass and leaves extra scents

thieves arent there to play nice with you

H&H is the like modern world in terms of moderation, if you don't look after your belonging someone will always take the easy approach and steal it.

Sadly been a game, people love to do evil things more so as they cant get caught/thrown into jail etc. So griefing becomes common, in a game you have more of a need to protect your property.

This game's playerbase needs more ethics and friendlyness.

...I know that's not gonna happen.
And actually, it's probably more entertaining this way.

When's the next war ?

Stealing isn't griefing, it's part of the game. The "Theft" skill is there for a reason. It's only griefing if you steal stuff from weaker players just to annoy them.

I propose a new game mechanic. It detects when people are griefing and punishes them accordingly.

Well I am death, none can excel

Only for an asshole too lazy or stupid to get what they need themselves...SAME as in real life. SO no it is not part of "everyone's Game", it is there because (I guess) they want a place for assholes to feel at home in the game too...or company...whichever is more acccurate.

it is a legitimate part of the game even if you choose not to accept that fact
