I am curious if any factors contribute to the location of where higher quality soil or water resides. Like for soil, it may be coincidence but I seem to find the higher stuff around lakes or rivers. And for water It seems to be pretty random.

All completely random, though once you find a hotspot ofc the area surrounding it will be affected.
