Try updating java, adding more ram, and replacing the whole thing with a better computer.
Surprise.

I have just the opposite problem. I can't run it on my desktop but on my laptop it works fantastically but that might just because my laptop is awesome.

Providing your laptop specs might help others to help fix your problem, you know. But really, the standard updating your drivers, java, and etc. could possibly help it. That and maybe clearing up some space on your computer. If your hard-drive is pretty filled up that might be slowing ti down a lot. Try also running virus scans, disk defrag and other various system tools. You could also go to your task manager if all you run is it when you're playing and set it to a higher priority if you use Windows.

Ctrl-Alt-Delete->Processes->Right click Javaw->set priority->then set it to whatever resources you want to allocate. You can also do that to reduce resources used on other nonessential programs you may be running to help it to allocate more to Haven&Hearth. This is written for a Windows XP. If you use Vista or above the process is different XD. lol, not much, but different.
